The Contemporary History of the Western Philosophy
Johann Gottlieb Fichte Life The Early Period Johann Fichte was born as a son of a very poor ribbon weaver in the village called Rammenau in Sachsen (Saxony in Eastern Germany). When he was a small child, he learned how to weave ribbon and watch geese and helped his family. Johann was a very unusual child and was able to retell the sermon as he very carefully listened to the preacher 's talk. One day, a wealthy farmer from the neighboring village was not able to be to attend the church service on time one Sunday. So someone told him that he should ask that child who attended the geese. As the wealthy farmer heard that child recite the sermon back to him exactly without any problem to him, he was so impressed with his potential that he sponsored this child's education.

Fichte's Transcendental Philosophy : The Original Duplicity of Intelligence and Will
(Modern European Philosophy) by Gunter Zoller. This is the first book in English on the major works of the German philosopher Johann Gottlieb Fichte (1762-1814). It examines the transcendental theory of self and world from the writings of Fichte's most influential period (1794-1800), and considers in detail recently discovered lectures on the Foundations of Transcendental Philosophy. Combining incomparable erudition, sensitive readings of some of the most difficult of philosophical texts, clarity in exposition and an acute awareness of historical context, this book takes its place as the ideal introduction to Fichte's thought. INTRODUCTION
Johann Gottlieb Fichte entered the field of German philosophy in the wake of Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) and just prior to G. W. F. Hegel (1770-1831). Consequently, his name often appears in critical works only to mark the distance between Kant and Hegel. Fichte was, however, an important thinker in his own right, as historians have acknowledged more and more in recent years. Fichte's explication of Kant, which long earned him credit for being his predecessor's best interpreter, also catalyzed Fichte's original philosophy, which depends on his concept of the Wissenschaftslehre, or "The Science of all Knowledge." Determined to make his system accessible to the German population at large, as well as to other specialists, Fichte lectured and wrote prolifically, producing many major works in his relatively short career. He excelled as a speaker, addressing himself to the public with a missionary zeal based on his belief that philosophy—practical philosophy—could change lives, as it had his. Fichte directed the force of his work against the implications of determinism, searching instead for the possibility of human freedom or agency. A disciple of political theorist Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Fichte applied his philosophical commitment to political causes as well, allying himself with the cause of the French Revolution in 1789. When Germany felt the threat of imperial French forces less than two decades later, Fichte devoted himself to fomenting German unity, thus earning a reputation as the "father of German nationalism."
