Behmenists Summary Behmenism was a Continental religious sect based on the teaching and writings of , a German Lutheran religious philosopher and Pietist mystic. He has been called the "Teutonic Theosopher". Boehme wrote his first treatise Die Morgenroete in Aufgang oder Aurora In 1618 he started writing devotional treatises. The majority of his works were written from 1619-1624. His second major work was Weg zu Christo
English Behmenists
English Behmenists developed independently of their Continental brethren. Some of the English Behmenists eventually merged with the early Quakers, who incorporated Boehme's teachings into their own doctrines. Boehme through his writings would lead men to a fuller religious experience and awakening to God. English translations of Boehmes' writings were very popular in England. Manuscripts seem to have been available in the late 1640's. A biography of Boehme was produced about 1645 by Richard Whittaker . Boehme's works were being translated after 1645 into English by the following translators: John Sparrow Humphrey Blunden ; and

Provisional bibliography of English Bohemists
This is a provisional bibliography of books written by the English followers of the 'Teutonic theosopher' Jacob Boehme, and others influenced by his thought. The descriptions include the full text of the title page, together with a list of the contents, notes on any illustrations, and the STC, Wing, or ESTC numbers if available. As some of these books are extremely rare, I have, where relevant, indicated the availability of a microfilm copy in easily accessible series, such as the 'Early English Printed books on Micriofilm', which most larger University Libraries will hold. This list will be amended and updated when I have further information - Adam McLean.

Boehme, Jacob (
Boehme, Jacob , a celebrated German mystic, born at G¶rlitz ; of an imaginatively meditative turn from boyhood as a neat-herd, and afterwards in his stall as a shoemaker; spent his whole life in meditation on divine things; saw in the Bible a revelation of these as in no other book; seemed to have eyes given him to see visions of these things himself, for which he felt he had no organ to express, and which he conveyed to others in mystical, apocalyptical speech; a thinker very fascinating to all minds of the seer class. He was subject to persecution, as all of his stamp are, by the men of the letter, and bore up with the meekness which all men of his elevation of character ever do—“quiet, gentle, and modest,” as they all are to the very core, in his way of thinking; and his philosophy would seem to have anticipated the secret of Hegel, who acknowledges him as one of the fathers of German
