The Nation's Investment in Cancer Research FY 2006

caBIG: Connecting the Cancer Community
... NCI Staff Contacts Introduction The Howard Temin Award uses the K01 grant mechanism to bridge the transition from a mentored research environment to an independent research career for outstanding junior scientists who are committed to developing basic research programs directly relevant to the understanding of human biology and human disease as it relates to the etiology, pathogenesis, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of human cancer. The proposed research may include model systems, including animal models. However, at some point during the grant period, the proposed research must include work on human cancer. The award is primarily for basic scientists who already have received considerable postdoctoral experience. Planning, direction, and execution of the program are the responsibility of the candidate and his/her mentor on behalf of the applicant institution. The candidate must spend not less than one-year and not more than three-years in the mentored phase of this award. Support beyond the mentored period is contingent upon the career awardee moving to an unmentored, independent research environment on the award anniversary dates of the second, third, or fourth year of support. The total project period for an application for the Temin Award may not exceed 5 years.

DAVID BALTIMORE
David Baltimore blev født i New York .
