Baldwin-Wallace College Junior Middle Linebacker Joe George Plays Each and
Every Minute of Football at a High Level
By: Matt Florjancic, Student Staff Writer BEREA, OHIO During a football coaching class, the instructor stated the thinking behind choosing a 4-3 defense. In a 4-3 defense, there are four linemen and three linebackers. The teacher said that a coach usually chooses this defense because of an outstanding middle linebacker. That player on defense for Baldwin-Wallace College is starting junior middle linebacker, Joe George. George, a 20-year-old native of Massillon, started playing the game of football at an early age. "I just started watching it on television with my dad when I was about three years old," said George. "He [my dad] put us [my brother and me] in little hutch pads one day in the backyard, and ever since then, I’ve been playing football." George began his career at Perry High School in Massillon. During his years of wearing the Panther uniform, he was a part of some formable teams.

Counting the Nobel laureates... Does it prove what the Discovery Institute says it does?
by Wesley R. Elsberry In their viewer's guide pretentiously (and erroneously, as I will demonstrate below) titled, "Getting the Facts Straight", the Discovery Institute gives us this discussion: The narrator says that anti-evolution efforts following the Scopes trial "had a chilling effect on the teaching of evolution and the publishers of science textbooks. For decades, Darwin seemed to be locked out of America's public schools. But then evolution received an unexpected boost from a very unlikely source the Soviet Union." When the Soviets launched the first man-made satellite, Sputnik, in 1957, Americans were goaded into action. The narrator continues: "As long-neglected science programs were revived in America's classrooms, evolution was, too. Biblical literalists have been doing their best to discredit Darwin's theory ever since." This takes the distortion of history one giant step further. It is blatantly false that U.S. science education was "neglected" after the Scopes trial because Darwinism was "locked out of America's public schools." During those supposedly benighted decades, American schools produced more Nobel Prize-winners than the rest of the world put together. And in physiology and medicine the fields that should have been most stunted by a neglect of Darwinism the U.S. produced fully twice as many Nobel laureates as all other countries combined. How about the U.S. space program? Was it harmed by the supposed neglect of Darwinism in public schools? Contrary to what Evolution implies, the U.S. space program in 1957 was in good shape. The Soviet Union won the race to launch the first satellite because it had made that one of its highest national priorities. The U.S., on the other hand, had other priorities such as caring for its citizens and rebuilding a war-torn world. When Sputnik prodded Americans to put more emphasis on space exploration, the U.S. quickly surpassed the Soviet Union and landed men on the Moon. The necessary resources and personnel were already in place; the U.S. didn't have to wait for a new generation of rocket scientists trained in evolution.

Family of George Snell, Mono Township, Ontario, Canada
Updated October 4, 2000
I am researching the family of George Snell who was born in 1798 in County Cavan, Ireland. He emigrated around 1828 to Mono Township, which is now in Dufferin County (was then Simcoe County), Ontario, Canada. He was buried, after his death in 1869, in Snell's Cemetery which is at the site where Snell's Methodist Church, and the original homestead once stood, in Mono Township.
George was married to Ellen McManus and had 3 children in Ireland before leaving. Seven more children (confirmed) were born in Canada.
Ellen's entire family came with them. Ellen's brother George McManus became a next door neighbour, and prominent citizen in the area. Ellen's mother, and other siblings settled west of Dufferin County, near Mount Forest.
Many thanks to all those who contributed to this record.

Mormon Novels
I N THE NINETEENTH CENTURY The western part of the United States, the "frontier" of a hundred years ago, has changed rapidly; there is still a lot of open country in the West, but there is no isolation. The individual westerner–Mormons included–now encounters the same anxieties and pleasures that the individual easterner experiences. Likewise the novels written about Mormons have changed from the melodramatic or the sensational kind to the more universal experiences of individual Mormons. The survey which follows does not pretend to be exhaustive; its intent is to acquaint students of western American literature with some of the names and titles frequently mentioned in discussions of Mormon novels and to place them in sequence as an aid to seeing the changes that have occurred. Mormonism was becoming a controversial movement even before its formal organization as a church in 1830, and by 1843, when Captain Frederick Marryat published his three-volume Monsieur Violet
