    Diagnosis
Anaphylaxis Anaphylaxis refers to a rapidly developing and serious allergic reaction that affects a number of different areas of the body at one time. Severe anaphylactic reactions can be fatal. Most people experience allergy symptoms only as a minor annoyance. However, a small number of allergic people are susceptible to a reaction that can lead to shock or even death. Fortunately, anaphylaxis is rare. The death rate from anaphylaxis is about 1 out of every 2.5 million people per year. Anaphylaxis is often triggered by substances that are injected or ingested and thereby gain access into the blood stream. An explosive reaction involving the skin, lungs, nose, throat, and gastrointestinal tract can then result. Although severe cases of anaphylaxis can occur within seconds or minutes of exposure and be fatal if untreated, many reactions are milder and can be ended with prompt medical therapy.

    Foretelling the Next 50 Years

    Real and bogus authorities

"This is a multidisciplinary, empirical attempt to understand the future of mankind.... The work is based upon publicly recorded beliefs and behavior from nearly every area of the Earth.... With regard to specific variables of the human condition, such as population, the author has tried to determine accurately current values, historical trends, and possible future rates of change. From these an estimate of future values may be made. The resulting predictions for such variables are intended to be empirical rather than based upon hope, fear, or intuition." Other People From the Book: Because of the encyclopedic nature of this book, it is impossible to summarize its themes in a page or two. Instead, the author has selected from the Name Index some of the better known persons who contributed to the reasoning in the book, other than those already listed under 140 real and bogus authorities . This is followed by topics from the book, other than those already given on the main page.

Charles Robert Richet 25. August in Paris 4.

    CHARING CROSS HOSPITAL 1997
Gabriel, I suppose we’d better start at the beginning. What age did you decide to be a doctor? GR: HDW: GR: HDW: GR: HDW: GR: HDW: GR: HDW: GR: HDW: GR: HDW: GR: HDW: GR: HDW: There were survivors, but not intact. HDW: GR: HDW: GR: Yes, he was austere to a certain extent because he was entirely devoted to what he thought important. I would say he was earnest. He was as earnest at the bedside as with the hospital organization and in wring and in any other activities but I took care of two or three of his school mates and they told me that he was full of fun then. I would like to try and show you how he behaved at a dinner offered by the junior staff to the senior staff just to "pull their legs". Look at this. It is funny - he smiles and it was a very agreeable evening at the Hôpital Necker. HDW: GR: HDW: GR: HDW: GR: The only one that remains now is postoperative sepsis. We treated them with intestinal dialysis which was more or less tricky because it is difficult to manage at the same me the active transfer or the passive transfer within the gut from the lumen of the gut to outside, or the reverse. HDW: GR: No, no. It was this patient and one day she pulled out the intestinal tube. Hamburger very seriously warned her husband and the husband came back to his wife’s bed, slapped her face twice and said, "Bringing you to Paris was expensive. You have to pay the doctor in order to come back home and run the farm with me." This was an old style psychological treatment for his wife, who was the mother of four children.
