Collegiate Water Polo Association (SAAC) Student Athletic Advisory Committee Meeting was held 8:00 PM, January 12th, 2005
The meeting started out with Matt Olds, the CWPA facilitator to the SAAC, introducing the committee and stating that he would do the leg work of the committee, while the president would take a leadership role. The committee was originally created to look closely at sportsmanship issues that were happening in the CWPA, but we do not want to limit ourselves solely to that issue. The facilitator then said that elections will be held at our next meeting for president of the SAAC. Individuals wanting to be considered can either contact Matt before the next meeting, or nominate themselves at the next meeting. The facilitator then asked for suggestions for how the committee can best address sportsmanship issues in the CWPA. Grady Snyder said that the committee needs to form a basic definition of sportsmanship that everyone can follow and look to. Sean Smith stated that if we are going to make players and fans accountable for a sportsmanship agreement, then we should have the referees accountable as well to make all united in the effort. Christopher George agreed with the idea, and said that to take it to the next step we could have everyone sign a sportsmanship code of conduct. Chris also stated that there should be a forum through SAAC to report any sportsmanship issues. Keely Ann Muscatel said that reporting the lack of sportsmanship is important, but make sure that we focus on the good examples as well.

Leo James Rainwater (1917 - 1986) American physicist who studied the fundamental structure of the nucleus. At the time, there were two models of the atom, the liquid drop model, and the shell model, but both had problems. He felt he could overcome the faults of both by making the nucleus oblong. He proposed that the outer orbit of particles in some nuclei did not have the right number of particles for the forces between the particles to balance each other and make the nucleus a sphere. Instead, it was deformed. Later his theory was confirmed.

LEO JAMES RAINWATER

Thomas Hunt Morgan won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1933 for his chromosome theory of heredity. On the basis of experimental research with the fruit fly (Drosophila), he demonstrated that genes are linked in a series on chromosomes and that they determine identifiable, hereditary traits.
An embryologist by training, Morgan turned his attention to Drosophila in 1908. On the basis of fly-breeding experiments, he developed a hypothesis of sex-linked characteristics, which he theorized were part of the X chromosome of females. In 1928, he came to Caltech to organize work in biology. The most influential biologist in America at that time, Morgan pioneered the new science of genetics, the essential science for the future of biology. In 1930, he also established a marine biology laboratory at Corona del Mar (the lab is still in use today). By then, Morgan had left Drosophila genetics and had returned to his earlier interest in developmental biology. He often spent weekends at the marine station working with an organism called the sea squirt. He remained on the Caltech faculty for the rest of his career.
Anderson arrived at Caltech in 1923 as an 18-year-old freshman, and never left. He discovered the positron in 1932, using a cloud chamber. Shortly thereafter, Anderson and his graduate student, Seth Neddermeyer, discovered mu-mesons, or muons. During World War II, Caltech scientists produced and tested land and aircraft rockets for the United States Navy. Anderson supervised the testing of aircraft rockets at China Lake and later visited the front lines in Europe to observe how the rockets performed. He served as chair of the Division of Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy from 1962 to 1970, and was named emeritus in 1976.

Lane Change Gets Green Light

Vancouver city council recently approved an innovative lane-paving option, which is a less-expensive, more environmentally-friendly design which allows 60-70% of precipitation to be absorbed directly into the ground. A similar, existing "country-lane" pilot project, which allows more than 90% infiltration, is located at east 27th and Fraser street.

Letter to Legislative Leadership from Supt. Rainwater on 2003-05 State Budget
June 11, 2003 Senator Mary Panzer, Majority Leader
211 South - Capitol Senator Jon Erpenbach, Minority Leader
202 South - Capitol Representative John Gard, Speaker
211 West - Capitol Representative Jim Kreuser, Minority Leader
201 West - Capitol Dear Legislative Leaders: As both houses of the Legislature begin to put the finishing touches on the 2003-05 biennial budget, there are several K-12 provisions in the bill that I believe deserve greater scrutiny. Revenue Limits - After a decade of cuts amounting to over $28 million and the elimination of almost 300 positions, halving the allowable revenue limit increase further erodes the district's ability to offer the high quality education our community demands. The state's backing away from the 2/3 commitment, coupled with a dramatic reduction in the allowable revenue limit increase, will harm Wisconsin's premier K-12 system. Further, the $100 allowable increase in Fiscal Year 04-05 fails to keep pace with inflation and disregards higher costs for utilities, already negotiated labor agreements and transportation costs. I urge both houses to return to current law on allowable revenue limit increases. SAGE - The SAGE program has been a tremendous benefit to the Madison Schools. We strongly support the state program to reduce K-3 class size and believe it has made an important difference for our children.

http://www.geocities.com/edgarbook/names/j/james.html
For many more names, please return to Edgar's Main Page. James
Gender : Masculine
Language : English
Etymology
The names Jacomus and Jacobus (both Latin forms of the Hebrew name, Yaakov ; modern: Jacob ) gave to Old French speakers two alternatives: James and Jacques . English speakers (heavily influenced, as they were, by Norman French) preferred James, and it became the original English form of Jacob
See Jacob for more information.
History
The first English reference for James is one to the Biblical St. James in 1148. Later, after the 13th century, after the Spanish shrine for St. James (Sant Jago de Compostela) became a popular destination of European pilgrims, the name James became more commonly used, especially in northern England and Scotland.
But James did not become really common in England until the early 17th century, when King James VI of Scotland became King James I of Great Britain in 1603. It has remained very popular ever since.
Please see Jacob for more information.
