Robert Robinson
, Christopher Ingold and Leopold Ruzicka , all of whom I considered as my "imaginary" teachers. In later years I was fortunate to become well acquainted with all three of these great chemists.
Richard Kuhn

My main interests were natural compounds, from adamantane and aialoids to rifamycins and boromycin. During the work on natural compounds stereochemical problems emerged from all sides. As E.L. Eliel pointed out, stereochemistry is not so much a branch of chemistry but rather a way of looking at chemistry. It was, and still is, great fun trying to find new points of view for it.
I travel a lot. Recently I counted that I have given lectures in more than 150 places, often several times. This in spite of the fact that I do not speak any language properly. I suspect that many people come to my lectures because they enjoy my strange accent and skill in managing without actually cheating.
For many years, when still a Yugoslav citizen, I was already a Swiss patriot and in 1959 I obtained Swiss citizenship. However, I consider myself a world citizen and I am very grateful to my adopted country that it allows me to be one.
The way from Sarajevo to Stockholm is a long one and I am fully aware that I have been very lucky to arrive there. The journey could not have been made without the generous help of friends, colleagues, co-workers and also of innumerable earlier chemists "on whose shoulders we stand".

Prelog, Vladimir
Nobel Prize for Chemistry with John W. Cornforth for his work on the stereochemistry of organic molecules and reactions. (Stereochemistry is the study of the three-dimensional arrangements of atoms within molecules.) Prelog performed wide-ranging research on the stereochemistry of alkaloids, antibiotics, enzymes, and other natural compounds. In particular he contributed to the understanding of stereoisomerism, in which two compounds of identical chemical composition have different, mirror-image configurations (like a person's right and left hands). With Robert Cahn and Sir Christopher Ingold, he developed a nomenclature for describing complex organic compounds. This system, known as CIP, provided a standard and international language for precisely specifying a compound's structure.

Prelog, Vladimir Bosnian-born Swiss organic chemist who studied alkaloids and antibiotics. The comprehensive molecular topology that evolved from his work on stereochemistry is gradually replacing classical stereochemistry. He shared a Nobel prize 1975.
Alkaloids were the subject of Prelog's early research, and he derived the structures of quinine, strychnine, and steroid alkaloids from plants of the genera Solanum and Veratrum. His studies of lipoid extracts from animal organs also resulted in the discovery of various steroids and the elucidation of their structures. He investigated metabolic products of microorganisms and with a number of other researchers isolated various new complex natural products that have interesting biological properties. These include antibiotics and bacterial growth factors.

Early history
Prelog is mentioned for the first time on December 6 , and that date is celebrated with a local festival . The name Prelog is probably derived from the Croatian word vlak meaning the train pulling , or to pull , since the area attracted many visitors who intentionally came and eventually passed by in the process of transit and trade The place was obviously well managed and organized so that in the king of Croats and Hungarians Matthias Corvinus , was stationed here with his army . It was a trade center when the Zrinski family of rulers ( Nikola Zrinski Petar Zrinski ) controlled the region. In , Petar Zrinski was accused of treason and executed. After this, the population of Prelog decreased due to fear and suspicion of foreign
