You know, we look at railroad firemen, saying we don't need somebody shoveling coal for the locomotives anymore. But if it happens to you, it becomes devastating ... Computers cannot replace human beings. But a computer, plus communications, can replace an entire department very easily. Departments are easy to replace. A department of anything. For instance, you can't replace a reporter with a computer. Can't be done. But you can, by shipping in your news from somewhere else, duplicating stories from a national magazine, eliminate the need for reporters all together. You see, the single reporter is just too complicated. You can't get somebody to do that. But you can somehow get rid of the whole thing. Give everybody CNN in their pocket. That's not replacing the complex, the rich behavior of human beings. But CNN can take away the need to read your newspaper. You see what I'm saying. It's that: computers plus communication."
