Welcome to Mother Teresa's Site, A tribute to Mother Teresa, her life and the legacy she left behind. W e all have our own heroes, people we admire and respect, people who made an impact on our life, that made us look at the world with a different eye, Mother Teresa is definitely the one for me. Although the world is full of good people, great humanitarians that really care, people who donate billions of dollars, people who raise their voice to make a difference, Mother Teresa stands out in the crowd, she is unique. "It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the doing.
It is not how much we give, but how much love we put in the giving." She dedicated every day of her adult life caring for "The dying, the cripple, the mentally ill, the unwanted, the unloved" and she loved every minute of it because she was loving, she was cleaning, feeding "Jesus in disguise". Yes, she fed them, sheltered them, cleaned their wounds, but what is more important she made them feel good, loved, wanted, she gave them back their dignity that poverty had taken away from them and even if they died they died with a smile on their face....somebody loves them, somebody cares for them .... "Speak tenderly to them. Let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of your greeting.

Shine through me and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel Thy presence in my soul. Let them look up and see no longer me but only Jesus. Mother Teresa
, whose original name was Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, was born on August 26, 1910 in what is now Skopje, Macedonia. She always wrote her birthday as the 27th of August because that was the day of her baptism, which was always more important to her than her birth. For her work with the poor around the world she received the Nobel Peace Prize In 1928 she joined a religious order and took the name Teresa. The order immediately sent her to India. A few years later, she began teaching in Calcutta, and in 1948 the Catholic Church granted her permission to leave her convent and work among the city's poor people. She became an Indian citizen that same year. In 1950, she founded a religious order in Calcutta called the Missionaries of Charity. The order provides food for the needy and operates hospitals, schools, orphanages, youth centers, and shelters for lepers and the dying poor. It now has branches in 50 Indian cities and 30 other countries. In addition to the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize, Mother Teresa has received other awards for her work with the needy. These awards include the 1971 Pope John XXIII Peace Prize and India's Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding in 1972. Mother Teresa died on September 5, 1997. She is sorely missed.

QUICKVOTE Do you believe in miracles?
Yes No VIEW RESULTS Steps to sainthood In the 10th century, Pope John XV developed an official canonisation procedure, which went through some revisions in the ensuing 1,000 years.
  • The process must begin five years after the candidates' death. (Pope John Paul II waived this requirement in Mother Teresa's case.)
  • Local bishops investigate the life of the candidate and the findings are sent to the Vatican.
  • After approval by a panel of theologians and cardinals, the pope proclaims the candidate is "venerable," meaning a role model of Roman Catholic virtues.
  • The next step is beatification if it is determined by the church that the candidate is responsible for a miracle after his or her death.

Faith is given through the language of the heart. If a man has a living faith in him, it spreads its aroma like the rose its scent. Because of its invisibility, the extent of its influence is far wider than that of the visible beauty of the colour of its petals."

~ Mother Teresa of Calcutta ~ [Dear visitor, what about Mother Teresa's faith? Isn't it much like the rose that Gandhiji invoked? Isn't there something splendidly aromatic or all-embracing about Mother's life of service in India, an ancient land in certain respects almost quintessentially anti-Christian or anti-western. Yet this little lady has lit a candle that truly lights the world, attracting the admiration of millions, and the accolades of kings and presidents, prime ministers and Hollywood stars, unequivocal papal endorsement, the Nobel Prize and yes, the special blessing of Princess Diana, very nearly a "saint" in her own right. ]

Give love to your children, to your wife or husband, to a next door neighbor....Let no one come to you without leaving better or happier. Sick man receives 16-year-old letter from Mother Teresa
April 5, 1998 Web posted at: 9:34 p.m. EDT (0134 GMT) CHEYENNE, Wyoming (AP) A thank-you note Mother Teresa wrote in 1981 but then forgot to mail finally arrived 16 years late. And it couldn't have come to Gilbert Ortiz at a better time. The same day last week that Ortiz, 70, learned his kidneys were failing and he had an aneurysm on his aorta, he received the inspirational letter postmarked Calcutta, India. The letter was from Mother Teresa, who signed a typed letter thanking him for a donation but forgot to mail it. The letter is dated November 28, 1981. Mother Teresa died September 5, 1997. A Missionaries of Charity nun came across the letter recently while sorting through Mother Teresa's papers and thought Ortiz would want it, an accompanying letter said. "Pain sorrow and suffering is but the kiss of Jesus," the letter reads. "A sign that you have come so close to Him that He can kiss you. May God give you all the courage to accept your cross with the resignation and love in union with the passion of Jesus." Mother Teresa would try to respond to all donations sent to her, said Sister Sharbel of the Missionaries of Charity convent in San Francisco.

(CNN) Pope John Paul II presided Sunday over a momentous ceremony, placing Mother Teresa on the final step to sainthood, praising her life and telling a huge crowd at St. Peter's Square that "even in our days God inspires new models of sainthood." The beatification ceremony came days after the Pope celebrated his 25th anniversary as head of the Catholic Church. Mother Teresa, 1910-1997
"It is not enough for us to say: "I love God," but I also have to love my neighbor. St. John says that you are a liar if you say you love God and you don't love your neighbor. How can you love God whom you do not see, if you do not love your neighbor whom you see, whom you touch, with whom you live?"
    -Mother Teresa
The most moving comments I have heard on what Mother Teresa has said is that she saw a form of Jesus in each human being, and administered to each person in this light...she did not see a human being who should be judgementally shunned because they are diseased, poor, gay, of a different race or religion, or even a murderershe saw a manifestation of Jesus in need of our love and assistance. If we learn nothing else from this saintly woman, I hope we learn and uphold this vision.
Our world is now missing a remarkable, holy manifestation of Christ, as we mourn the death and celebrate the life of Mother Theresa.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta “By blood, I am Albanian. By citizenship, an Indian. By faith, I am a Catholic nun. As to my calling, I belong to the world. As to my heart, I belong entirely to the Heart of Jesus. ” Small of stature, rocklike in faith, Mother Teresa of Calcutta was entrusted with the mission of proclaiming God’s thirsting love for humanity, especially for the poorest of the poor. “God still loves the world and He sends you and me to be His love and His compassion to the poor.” She was a soul filled with the light of Christ, on fire with love for Him and burning with one desire: “to quench His thirst for love and for souls.” This luminous messenger of God’s love was born on 26 August 1910 in Skopje, a city situated at the crossroads of Balkan history. The youngest of the children born to Nikola and Drane Bojaxhiu, she was baptised Gonxha Agnes, received her First Communion at the age of five and a half and was confirmed in November 1916. From the day of her First Holy Communion, a love for souls was within her. Her father’s sudden death when Gonxha was about eight years old left in the family in financial straits. Drane raised her children firmly and lovingly, greatly influencing her daughter’s character and vocation. Gonxha’s religious formation was further assisted by the vibrant Jesuit parish of the Sacred Heart in which she was much involved. At the age of eighteen, moved by a desire to become a missionary, Gonxha left her home in September 1928 to join the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, known as the Sisters of Loreto, in Ireland. There she received the name Sister Mary Teresa after St. Thérèse of Lisieux. In December, she departed for India, arriving in Calcutta on 6 January 1929. After making her First Profession of Vows in May 1931, Sister Teresa was assigned to the Loreto Entally community in Calcutta and taught at St. Mary’s School for girls. On 24 May 1937, Sister Teresa made her Final Profession of Vows, becoming, as she said, the
