Thomas Johann Heinrich Mann 22. August in L¼beck 13. Oktober ebenda ) war ein L¼becker Kaufmann und Vater der beiden Schriftsteller Thomas und Heinrich Mann. Thomas Johann Heinrich Mann wurde als zweites Kind aus der zweiten Ehe seines Vaters Johann Siegmund Jr. (1797 - 1863) geboren. Sein Mutter war Elisabeth Marty (1811-1890). Er hatte insgesamt drei Geschwister: Marie Elisabeth Amalie Hippolytha (1838-1917), Olga Maria (1845-1886) und Friedrich Wilhelm Lebrecht, genannt Friedel, (1847-1926). Er entstammte einer alten L¼becker Handelsfamilie. Obwohl erst 23 Jahre alt, wurde er von seinem Vater zum Erben der Firma eingesetzt. Nur einen Monat nach der Firmen¼bergabe starb sein Vater, und er trug jetzt die alleinige Verantwortung f¼r das Gesch¤ft und bestimmte damit auch die Geschicke der Familie. 1869 heiratete T.J.H. Mann Julia da Silva-Bruhns (1851-1923). Julias Vater war der L¼becker Kaufmann Johann Hermann Ludwig Bruhns (1821-1893). Ihre Mutter Maria da Silva-Bruhns entstammte einer reichen, portugiesisch-st¤mmigen Plantagenbesitzer -Familie.

The German author and Nobel Prize winner Simplicissimus Influenced by philosophers Arthur Schopenhauer and Friedrich Nietzsche , he wrote his first short story, Vision , in 1893 under the pen name Paul Thomas. After numerous short stories, his first international success came with the novel Buddenbrooks , in which a character from the middle-class battles with inner conflict . This was a recurring theme of Thomas Mann's, particularly in , which was published in 1903. The writer won fame with Death in Venice in 1912 and The Magic Mountain in 1924, a novel set in a Swiss village similar to Davos . In 1929, Thomas Mann received the Nobel Prize in Literature for his work. In 1933, he was forced into exile due to his critical writings on the Nazi regime.

L'écrivain allemand, Prix Nobel de littérature , a vécu 8 ans en Suisse. Thomas Mann est né en 1875 dans une vieille famille patricienne de Lübeck. Après le décès de son père, la famille déménage à Münich. Il fait ses débuts dans l'avant-garde de l'époque, le mouvement naturaliste de Berlin et sa revue satirique Simplicissimus Influencé par les philosophes Arthur Schopenhauer et Friedrich Nietzsche , il écrit sa première nouvelle en 1893, Vision , sous le pseudonyme de Paul Thomas. Après de nombreuses nouvelles, son premier succès international survient avec le roman Buddenbrooks , où l'on découvre un personnage de la classe bourgeoise aux prises avec un conflit intérieur , thème récurrent dans l'oeuvre de Thomas Mann et notamment dans Tonio Kröger , publié en 1903.
