Index to the Scientists and Engineers Biographical File
About the Scientists and Engineers Biographical File What is the Scientists and Engineers Biographical File? It is a collection of hard copy files with information on scientists who were prominent in the early 1970s. It consists of folders containing photographs, biographical information and bibliographies of 1200 American and 100 foreign scientists and engineers. How was the collection formed? The collection was formed during the years 1972 - 75. The Science and Technology Division contacted well known and lesser known scientists and engineers of the mid-twentieth century, and asked them to donate the materials. Those asked included:
  • Members of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineers Scientists listed in Who's Who in Science and Engineers of Distinction Nobel Prize recipients and winners of the National Medal for Science Members of Scientists in Search of Their Consciences.

Jews have some pretty remarkable statistics. The Census does not collect statistics, but there are other ways to get these numbers. Here's my collection of them. See my Asian - Jewish comparisons for a comparison with the top Asian ethnic groups, the Chinese and Indians. Jews are generally stronger compared to Asian Americans as a group, but they win some and lose some vs. Chinese, and the Indians are generally stronger in most numbers. [WARNING!] This data is meant to document positive contributions of Jews [GOOD], not generate animosity towards successful minority groups [EVIL]. There may be valid reasons to be annoyed at any ethnic group, but anti-semitism is NOT nice. Ashkenaz European Jews from Germany. Reputed to have the highest IQs among Jews and Europeans. http://kids.infoplease.lycos.com/ce5/CE003270.html Columbia Enclyclopedia Ashkenaz Ashkenazim refers to the German Jews as distinguished from the Sephardim, the Jews of Spain and Portugal. From: "Patricia Hausman" Date 14 Jul 1999 About 95% of U.S. Jews are Ashkenzis, (including me). My grandparents were from Russia and Hungary. awards

Biokémiai kutatások: Hans Adolf Krebs és Fritz Albert Lipmann
Orvosi-élettani Nobel-díj: 1953
A természettudósok, írók, és az emberiség békéjéért harcolók legmagasabb kitüntetése a Nobel-díj, melyet minden év decemberében, az alapító halálának évfordulóján adnak át Stockholmban. 1953-ban két biokémikus részesült a megtisztelõ elismerésben, egyikük Hans Adolf Krebs német származású amerikai biokémikus. Legjelentõsebb kutatási eredménye egy reakcióláncnak a leírása volt, amely a szénhidrát-, fehérje- és zsíranyagcsere köztes termékeinek általános, végsõ aerob lebomlását szemlélteti. Vizsgálatainak alapjait Szent-Györgyi Albert, a magyar Nobel-díjas tudós szerves savakra vonatkozó kutatásai képezték, ezért a felfedezett citrátkör, illetve citromsavciklus elnevezése is "Szent-Györgyi-Krebs körfolyamat" lett. 1953-ban a citromsavciklus felfedezéséért Krebs Nobel-díjat kapott, megosztva egy másik biokémia-tudóssal. Fritz Albert Lipmann (1899-1986) "A coenzim-A-nak és az intermedier-anyagcserében játszott szerepének felfedezéséért" indoklással részesült 1953-ban Nobel-díjban. Lipmann német egyetemeken tanulta az orvostudományt, Amszterdamban gyógyszertani ismereteket szerzett, kémiát pedig ismét Németországban tanult. Neves német kutatóintézetekben dolgozott, világhírû tudósok irányításával. 1942-tõl New Yorkban, majd Bostonban kutat, késõbb a Harvard Egyetem biokémia-professzora. Kiemelkedõ tevékenysége volt a "magas energiájú foszfátkötés" fogalmának bevezetése. Megállapította, hogy a sejtanyagcserében szrepet játszó adenozintrifoszfát (ATP) foszfátkötése magas energiát hordoz, s a kötés felbomlása energiát szolgáltat a biokémiai folyamatokhoz...
