The sport is Ultimate Frisbee , a game of agility, skill, speed, and luck. It is a sport which combines the best elements of soccer, basketball and American football into one very intense experience. Although it's been around for more than 25 years, there are still many people unfamiliar with Ultimate. If you are one of those people, I strongly encourage you to get involved in the sport. Not only is it incredibly fun, but it's also easy to learn and a good way to burn off unsightly cellulite. The Team
For two years now, we, the Mothers of Extension , have terrorized the world Ultimate scene with our Hard Core playing style . Living up to our motto, "gonna make ya sweat," has always been one of our top priorities. Officially, we are the Ultimate Frisbee team of MLK High School , but we believe that we would be quite capable of representing the entire United States in any international Ultimate competitions that should arise. We are very comitted to our sport, and we practice every day no matter what the weather or field conditions. Not only are we an invincible Ultimate team, but we're also politically correct , with representation from many strange ethnic and cultural groups within our ranks. We believe that Ultimate is the ultimate sport, and that it will eventually bring together the nations of the world in a spirit of universal peace and sportmanship. Long live Ultimate! Long live the Muthaz!

Martin Luther King: Beyond Vietnam A Time to Break Silence
"True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring."
delivered 4 April 1967 at a meeting of Clergy and Laity Concerned at Riverside Church in New York City
Audio mp3 of Address
I come to this magnificent house of worship tonight because my conscience leaves me no other choice. I join you in this meeting because I am in deepest agreement with the aims and work of the organization which has brought us together: Clergy and Laymen Concerned about Vietnam. The recent statements of your executive committee are the sentiments of my own heart, and I found myself in full accord when I read its opening lines: "A time comes when silence is betrayal." And that time has come for us in relation to Vietnam. The truth of these words is beyond doubt, but the mission to which they call us is a most difficult one. Even when pressed by the demands of inner truth, men do not easily assume the task of opposing their government's policy, especially in time of war. Nor does the human spirit move without great difficulty against all the apathy of conformist thought within one's own bosom and in the surrounding world. Moreover, when the issues at hand seem as perplexed as they often do in the case of this dreadful conflict, we are always on the verge of being mesmerized by uncertainty; but we must move on. And some of us who have already begun to break the silence of the night have found that the calling to speak is often a vocation of agony, but we must speak. We must speak with all the humility that is appropriate to our limited vision, but we must speak. And we must rejoice as well, for surely this is the first time in our nation's history that a significant number of its religious leaders have chosen to move beyond the prophesying of smooth patriotism to the high grounds of a firm dissent based upon the mandates of conscience and the reading of history. Perhaps a new spirit is rising among us. If it is, let us trace its movements and pray that our own inner being may be sensitive to its guidance, for we are deeply in need of a new way beyond the darkness that seems so close around us.

Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true.

Martin Luther King's death did not slow the Civil Rights Movement. Black and white people continued to fight for freedom and equality. Coretta Scott King is the widow of the civil rights leader. In 1970, she established the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Center in Atlanta, Ga. This "living memorial" consists of his boyhood home and the Ebenezer Baptist Church, where King is buried. On Monday, January 20, 1986, in cities and towns across the country people celebrated the first official Martin Luther King Day, the only federal holiday commemorating an African-American. A ceremony which took place at an old railroad depot in Atlanta, Ga., was especially emotional. Hundreds had gathered to sing and to march. Many were the same people who, in 1965, had marched for 50 miles between two cities in the state of Alabama to protest segregation and discrimination of black Americans. All through the 1980's, controversy surrounded the idea of a Martin Luther King Day. Congressmen and citizens had petitioned the President to make Jan. 15, Martin Luther King's birthday, a federal legal holiday. Others wanted to make the holiday on the day he died, while some people did not want to have any holiday at all.

Plagiarism and the Culture War: The Writings of Martin Luther King Jr. and Other Prominent Americans
Theodore Pappas
(Hallberg, 1998) Reviewed By Gavan Tredoux The news has been out since the late 1980s that Martin Luther King Jr., the American Civil Rights icon, was a serial plagiarist. Not only did he plagiarize at least half of his doctoral thesis; many of his speeches, including the most famous, were plagiarized too. Nor was this a recent development in his career - he had been plagiarizing material since he was a teenager. This is a fascinating story. There is the delicious irony that Luther King Jr. has been universally feted and embalmed with saintly oils. More interesting still, the story has been suppressed. Most Americans have not heard about the plagiarism and perhaps never will. The editors of his papers did their utmost to prevent the story from spreading. Boston University delayed, denied and obfuscated as long as possible and then some. The press, including the major newsmagazines, quashed coverage until the story had emerged elsewhere, and then buried it in the inside pages, entombing it in layers of qualification, special pleading and distraction. Now that the plagiarism has become incontestable, many academics continue to cover for the plagiarist, insisting that he was merely being an African American! Pappas struggled for years to find a publisher and effective distribution for his own groundbreaking account of all this. Despite that, the first printing sold out. Now he has completely revised and expanded the first edition, but don't expect a bookstore in your area to carry it. Instead, point your web browser at

Nation pauses to remember civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
WEB EXCLUSIVE Bill Delaney: Activist says African-Americans need to extend olive branch to Bush In this story: 'Time for us to get up and get involved' A day of speeches, services, parades RELATED STORIES, SITES (CNN) Many people across the United States are spending their day Monday observing the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday, set aside to commemorate what this year would have been the slain civil rights leader's 72nd birthday. At King's home church, Ebenezer Baptist in Atlanta, Georgia, widow Coretta Scott King called on those gathered to share her husband's "global vision" to overcome racism and violence while at the same time seeking "ecumenical solidarity." To properly commemorate King, she called for individuals to commit themselves to improving the society in which they live. Specifically, Mrs. King called for opposition to the "attack on affirmative action." She urged individuals to demand an end to racial profiling and mandatory minimum prison sentences, and to work toward a nonviolent society by achieving for themselves a nonviolent lifestyle.

Biography of Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968) Born in Atlanta, GA on January 15, 1929, Martin Luther King, Jr. was the eldest son of Martin Luther King, Sr., pastor and civil rights leader, and Alberta Williams King, whose father was the Rev. A.D. Williams, predecessor to King Sr. as pastor of Atlanta's Ebenezer Baptist church, and a founder of Atlanta's chapter of the NAACP. He entered Morehouse College at the age of 15, and was ordained a Baptist minister at 17. He graduated from Crozer Theological Seminary in Upland, PA. as class president at 22, married Coretta Scott in June 1953, at 24, and received a doctorate in systematic theology in 1955, at age 26. By this time, the core of King's philosophy of nonviolent protest had been formed, based on the ideals of Mohandas K. (Mahatma) Gandhi. King returned to the south and accepted the pastorate of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. In December of 1955, Rosa Lee Parks, a black woman, was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a municipal bus to a white man. The black community chose Dr.King to organize a boycott to end racial segregation in public transportation. King gained national prominence during the course of this 381-day action, which deserves more study than this short biography allows. Despite efforts to suppress the movement, the Supreme Court's mandate outlawed all segregated public transportation in the city.
