Name: Frank B. Kellogg (1856 - 1937) Categories: US S ecretary of State under Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover US Senator from Minnesota Burial Location: Washington National Cathedral, Washington, D.C., USA. Mike's Notes: Frank Kellogg served as Secretary of State under Presidents Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover . He is best remembered as the negotiator of the Kellogg-Brian Pact of 1928, under which an initial 15 countries and later an additional 47 agreed, at least in theory, to renounce war as a means of settling international disputes. Obviously, the Pact didn't work out too well, but it was certainly an admirable goal. For his efforts, Kellogg was awarded the 1929 Nobel Peace Prize.

Category: Chronological Order of When I Visited the Graves Hi, Mom! I say that because I figure only my mom would take the time to visit this page, but if you're not my mother, welcome anyway. The first famous grave I ever visited was Thomas Jefferson's, long before I got interested in doing this as a hobby. My family just happened to be visiting Monticello. The second and third ones, President Nixon and President Reagan's future burial site, I visited after I was interested in presidential history, but before I got interested in visiting famous graves. As well as I can remember, Al Capone was the first grave I visited for the express purpose of finding a famous dead person. A number of the graves I have visited more than one time, but I have only listed my first visits below. ca. 1990: 1 grave
  • Thomas Jefferson
  • December 1999: 3 graves
  • Richard Nixon Pat Nixon Ronald Reagan (future burial site)
  • January 2000: 8 graves
  • Al Capone Billy Sunday Stephen Douglas William Kimball Louis Henri Sullivan Charles G. Dawes

In June, 1927, Aristide Briand , foreign minister of France, proposed to the U.S. government a treaty outlawing war between the two countries. Frank B. Kellogg Bibliography See R. H. Ferrell, Peace in Their Time (1952, repr. 1968). American History Kellogg-briand Pact In this treaty, signed on August 27, 1928, the United States, France, Great Britain, Japan, Italy, Belgium, Poland, and Czechoslovakia renounced war as an instrument of national policy. French foreign minister Aristide Briand first suggested a treaty between the United States and France renouncing war as a method of settling disputes between the two countries. Secretary of State Frank Kellogg was furious because Briand proposed the treaty in a speech made directly to the American people, rather than going through diplomatic channels. If he accepted Briand's offer, he feared it would drag the United States into alliance with France in the event of another European warwhich was what Briand had in mind. But if Kellogg declined, groups favoring such a treaty would attack him in Congress and in the press. Support for the treaty came from opposite ends of the political spectrum. For example, Nicholas Murray Butler, the internationalist president of Columbia University, believed a treaty would move America closer to the League of Nations, whereas isolationist senator William E. Borah, a pacifist, simply hoped that the treaty would end war.
