Karlfeldt, Erik Axel,
skald. Född i Folkärna socken i Dalarne d. 20 juli 1864.

Karlfeldt, detail of an oil painting by Carl Larsson, 1918; in Gripsholm Castle, Sweden By courtesy of Svenska Portrattarkivet, Stockholm Nobel Prize for Literature posthumously in 1931; he had refused it in 1918. Karlfeldt's strong ties to the peasant culture of his rural homeland remained a dominant influence on him all his life. He published his most important works in six volumes of verse: (1895; "Songs of Wilderness and of Love"), Fridolins visor (1898; "Fridolin's Songs"), (1901; "Fridolin's Pleasure Garden"), Flora och Pomona Flora och Bellona (1918), and finally, four years before his death, (1927; "The Horn of Autumn"). Some of his poems have been published in English translation in Arcadia Borealis: Selected Poems of Erik Axel Karlfeldt (1938). In time, even some of his admirers criticized him for employing his gifts so exclusively in the service of a dying local culture.

In 1917 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Uppsala

No Kissing on Screen (1910)
The Kiss The Christian objection is hard to fathom: kissing in public, especially kissing between men, is not only mentioned but commanded by the Bible. "Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity" says 1 Peter 5:14. "And the LORD said to Aaron, 'Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.' And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him," says Exodus 4:27. This is definitely kissing between non-relatives. There are even kisses for inanimate objects ( 1 Kings 19:18 and Hosea Maybe the objection was to kissing between men and women? We have Jacob kissing Rachel (his niece) in Genesis 29:11.* The kiss in Genesis and another in Proverbs 7:13-14* were definitely sexual, as opposed to the kiss commonly shared between family members or friends. There are two more kisses between a man and a woman in Song of Solomon women in the Book of Ruth Rolling Stone * A kiss between an uncle and a niece: [29:11] And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.
** A harlot's kiss: [7:13] So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him

Swedish poet, who gained fame with his regional, tradition-bound poetry. Internationally unknown Karlfeldt won the Nobel Prize for Literature posthumously in 1931 - he had refused it in 1918 on the grounds of his position as a secretary of the Nobel Committee and because of the high proportion of Swedish writers who had already received the award.
(from 'Sjukdom') Karlfeldt was born in Folkärna in the rural province of Dalarna, central Sweden. His father, Erik Erson Karlfeldt, was a lawyer, and his mother, Anna Jansdotter Karlfeldt, was a devout Lutheran. Shortly after entering the University of Uppsala, his father suffered financial ruin, and died soon after. While supporting himself as a teacher, Karlfeldt completed his university studies and graduated in 1902. He worked as a librarian at the Academy of Agriculture at Stockholm from 1903 to 12 and secretary of Swedish Academy from 1912, which member he had been since 1904.
