Heeger - Institute for Polymers and Organic Solids, University of California at Santa Barbara (USA) Abstract Nanotechnology in Real Applications: From Solar Cells to Biosensors I will describe the use of nanotechnology in the creation of low cost solar cells and light emitting displays fabricated from materials that can be printed in large areas. Self-assembled structures with nano-scale dimensions are critical to these emerging applications. I will emphasize the breadth of the opportunities for nanotechnology. For example, I will describe self-assembled nano-structures which function as high performance bio-specific sensors (“biosensors”) that exhibit both a high degree of specificity and the required sensitivity for applications that range from clinical diagnostics to product authentication.
