This is a very nice story, but in fact, Alexander Fleming went to medical school using funds he inherited from his Uncle.
Description His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer. One
day, while trying to make a living for his family, he heard a
cry for help coming from a nearby bog. He dropped his tools
and ran to the bog. There, mired to his waist in black muck,
was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself.
Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what could have been a slow
and terrifying death.
The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman's sparse surroundings. An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved. "I want to repay you," said the nobleman. "You saved my son's life." "No, I can't accept payment for what I did," the Scottish farmer replied waving off the offer. At that moment, the farmer's

In 1935 Sir Alexander Fleming gave this sample of Penicillium mould to a colleague working with him at St Mary's Hospital, London, England. Why is this sample so important ? Although it may not look like much, it represents first chapter in a story about how an interesting observation led to the development of modern antibiotics. The sample of Penicillium can now be found in the Science Museum, London.

Biography
Fleming was born on a farm at Lochfield in Ayrshire Scotland and was schooled for two years at the Academy in Kilmarnock . He later attended St Mary's Hospital medical school in London until World War I broke out. He participated in a battlefield hospital with many of his colleagues in the fronts of France . Being exposed to the horrific medical infections by the dying soldiers, he returned to St. Mary's after the war with renewed energy in searching for an improved antiseptic. Both of Fleming's discoveries happened entirely by accident during the . The first, lysozyme , was discovered after Fleming sneezed into a bacterium-laced Petri dish . A few days later, it was noted that bacteria where the mucus had fallen had been destroyed. Fleming's labs were usually in disarray, which turned out to be to his advantage. In

Farmer Fleming's son attended the very best schools and in time graduated from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School, and went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin. Years afterward, the same nobleman's son who was saved from the bog was stricken with pneumonia. (Marco Island Sun-Times, FL)

Sir Alexander Fleming
Countless Millions Saved
-An Article for the Feb 2,000 Deep Cove Crier When Alexander Fleming’s picture turned up on the front cover of Time magazine, the byword stated "His penicillin will save more lives than war can spend". A vivid example of this ‘miracle’ was the usage of penicillin on D-Day to save 3,000 on Normandy Beach from deadly gangrene. Some researchers consider penicillin to be one of the key top-secret weapons that helped the Allies win World War II. It is hard for our modern generation to fully appreciate that before penicillin, even an infected pinprick or a tiny cut might be lethal. Hospitals were full of people with easily caught infections raging out of control. Children died regularly from scarlet fever, from infections of the bones, throat, stomach, or brain. It is no exaggeration to say that many of you reading this article would not be here today if it weren’t for the miracle of antibiotics touching you and your extended family.
In 1881, Alexander Fleming was born in Ayrshire in the lowlands of southwestern Scotland. A playground accident smashed the bridge of his nose and left him looking like a battered boxer. Andre Maurois said that Fleming had those qualities which many attribute to the Scots: a capacity for hard and sustained work, a combative spirit which refuses to admit defeat, a steadfastness and loyalty which creates respect and affection, and a true humility which protects against pretentiousness and pride.

Text Only 1955: Farewell to scientist who discovered penicillin Sir Alexander Fleming - the man who first discovered the life-saving drug penicillin - has died of a heart attack. He was 73. Sir Alexander died suddenly at his home in London. He was married only two years ago to Dr Amalia Coutsouris, from Athens, who worked at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington. His first wife, with whom he had a son, died in 1949. For many years, Sir Alexander was Professor of Bacteriology in the University of London and until last year was head of the Wright-Fleming Institute of Micro-Biology at St Mary's hospital, Paddington. The young scientist served in a battlefield hospital laboratory in France during World War I. When he saw how many soldiers were dying from infections he became determined to find a cure. His first notable discovery was lysozyme in 1922. It is a naturally-occurring antibacterial substance, found in tears and other body fluids. Knighthood But his biggest discovery - penicillin - was made by chance in 1929. During some routine research, he noticed a mould had developed on a culture plate left forgotten under a microscope. Where the new mould had grown the bacteria around it had faded away.
