Estrone was first isolated in 1929 by edward adelbert doisy, an American biochemistwho later isolated estriol and estradiol as well.
http://microscopy.fsu.edu/micro/gallery/hormones/hormone2.html
Estrone
Estrone is one the three major hormones that are predominantly involved in the maintenance of the female reproductive system and secondary sexual characteristics. In women, the chemical substance is chiefly produced in the ovaries, but the testes of males also secrete small amounts of estrone and other estrogens. Estrone was first isolated in 1929 by Edward Adelbert Doisy, an American biochemist who later isolated estriol and estradiol as well. The significant achievements of Doisy have had a tremendous impact on modern society, since his isolation of the estrogens was a tremendous step toward the development of oral contraceptives.

University of Chicago Nobel Laureates Seventy-eight Nobel Laureates have been faculty members, students or researchers at the University of Chicago at some point in their careers. Fourteen have won the Nobel Prize in the last decade alone. Of the 78 Laureates, 26 have won in Physics , 23 in Economic Sciences , 15 in Chemistry , 11 in Physiology or Medicine and three in Literature Seven Laureates are currently members of the faculty: John M. Coetzee James Heckman , a Professor in Economics and Public Policy, studies methodologies used to measure the impact of social programs, such as minimum-wage legislation and anti-discrimination law. He shared the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for work on analyzing selective samples. Robert Lucas Robert Fogel , a Professor in the Graduate School of Business, shared the award for applying economics and statistics to the study of history. In his work on slavery in the United States, Fogel has argued that the market would not have ended slavery, as it remained a profitable and efficient system for slave owners. Gary Becker , a Professor in Economics, was recognized for extending microeconomic analysis to a wide range of human behavior, such as interactions within a family. He also developed the idea that for companies, education and training are investments as much as new equipment.

79. CWRU AXE History
Petrus (Peter) Josephus Wilhelmus Debye (1936); edward adelbert doisy (1943);Glenn Theodore Seaborg (1951); Linus Carl Pauling (1954, 1962)
http://www.cwru.edu/orgs/alphachi/history.html
History - The Origins of AXE Alpha Chi Sigma Fraternity, founded December 11, 1902, at the University of Wisconsin, is comprised of a membership limited to upperclassmen majoring in some field of pure or applied chemistry. At first, the only stated qualifications for membership were that the candidate be of high moral character and pursuing a career in a chemical science. Like all fraternities of its day, it assumed that its membership would be white, protestant and male. Wording was soon added to the Bylaws to keep it that way. Times changed, and Alpha Chi Sigma strove to stay ahead of its time. The first restrictions to be removed from the Bylaws came in 1948, making Jewish chemists eligible for membership. All racial restrictions were removed in 1954, well in advance of the race-troubled 60s. Women became eligible for membership in 1971, several years before federal law would have required such changes. Final wording changes were made to the Constitution in 1986, making it clear that once again the only eligibility requirements be that the person be an upperclassman, majoring in a chemistry-related field. Now, as Alpha Chi Sigma approaches its second century, it remains the nation's only professional chemistry fraternity. Its goals and ideals remain virtually unchanged, but its makeup and methods are still undergoing transmutation.
