Qui est-il ? Avant d'entrer dans le vaste mais très passionnant sujet de l'astronomie, domaine, qui comme vous l'avez sans doute déjà deviné, est devenu pour nous une véritable passion, nous avons pensé qu'il serait intéressant de vous présenter ce que nous appelons, si bien mystérieusement, le GALAC... Fondé en 1982 comme club du foyer Socio-Educatif et constitué depuis 1986 en association indépendante, le Groupe Astronomie du Lycée Albert Camus (GALAC) regroupe tous ceux, élèves, anciens élèves et professeurs qui veulent savoir ce qui se passe au-dessus de leur tête. Cours réguliers d'initiation, conférences pour le grand public et soirées d'observations telles sont les activités de base du groupe, groupe où les nouveaux adhérents lycéens retrouvent des étudiants, des parents, des amis venus d'horizons divers, tous unis par une même passion : la découverte de nouvelles frontières. Au chapitre des réalisations d'envergure, il faut citer la construction de plusieurs gros télescopes de 250, 300 et même 400 mm de diamètre, dont un pour l'observatoire de Chabotte, dans la Drôme, au Centre de Découverte de la ville de Rillieux-la-pape (commune de la banlieue lyonnaise), observatoire géré par le GALAC et utilisé par les classes transplantées de la ville. Le GALAC, par ailleurs, a été à l'initiative de six missions d'observation sur des terres lointaines : HALLEY 86 et CIEL AUSTRAL 88 à l'île de la Réunion, NANAHUATZIN 91 au Mexique, INTI 94 dans les Andes, KARUKERA 98 en Guadeloupe et ECLIPSEA 99 en Alsace pour des éclipses totales de soleil.

He received the 1957 Nobel Prize for Literature Early years. Less than a year after Camus was born, his father, an impoverished worker of Alsatian origin, was killed in World War I during the First Battle of the Marne. His mother, of Spanish descent, worked as a charwoman to support her family. Camus and his elder brother Lucien moved with their mother to a working-class district of Algiers, where all three lived, together with the maternal grandmother and a paralyzed uncle, in a two-room apartment. Camus's first published collection of essays, L'Envers et l'endroit (1937; "The Wrong Side and the Right Side"), describes the physical setting of these early years and includes portraits of his mother, grandmother, and uncle. A second collection of essays, Noces (1938; "Nuptials"), contains intensely lyrical meditations on the Algerian countryside and presents natural beauty as a form of wealth that even the very poor can enjoy. Both collections contrast the fragile mortality of human beings with the enduring nature of the physical world.

Introduction Before commenting upon the works of Albert Camus, I should first make a rather bold statement: I consider him to be an existential writer. It is fashionable in academic writings to now drop the label from almost every "existentialist" especially since only Sartre seems to have embraced the label, and then only for a brief time. Certainly it is possible to debate Camus' status as an existentialist, but one cannot ignore existential elements in his fiction. Camus preferred to think of himself as an "absurdist."

His marriage to Simone breaks up due to her serious drug addiction, an opponent for her attention and respect he could not beat. He is still able to produce his own play that year however, The Revolt in Austria. In 1937, Camus completes the book A Happy Death though it remains unpublished during his lifetime. However Camus does publish the essay collection The Wrong Side and the Right Side. He supports the Blum-Viollette legislation on mitigating social problems in Algeria and is expelled from the Communist Party. He then refuses a teaching post in Sidi-Bel-Abb?s but writes a characteristic essay, Betwixt and Between. His theater group is renamed the Thtre de l'Equipe. He runs it until 1938, producing the works of many renowned playwrights, such as Malraux, Gide, Synge, and Dostoevsky. Amazingly, a year later Camus not only revives Caligula and publishes Exile and the Kingdom and "Reflections on the Guillotine", but he wins the Nobel Prize for literature. Following the biggest award of his life, Camus republishes The Wrong Side and The Right Side with a new introduction. He buys a house at Lourmarin in Southern France and chooses to turn down an offer to have artistic control over the Comedie Francaise. Instead, in 1959, he adapts and directs Dostoevsky's The Possessed for the experimental stage. He also works full time on the novel, The First Man. On the 4th of January, Camus is killed in a car accident at Villeblevin. A Happy Death and The First Man are published posthumously decades later. The sudden death cuts short the life of the great moralist of twentieth-century French letters.
