The Editors of The New England Quarterly Announce the 2006 Herbert Ross Brown Prize in New England Literary History, 1820-2000
This prize of two thousand dollars, established in memory of Herbert Ross Brown, editor of NEQ from 1945 to 1980, will be awarded for a distinguished essay in New England literary history, 1820-2000.
A committee of scholars will act as judges. Their decision in all cases will be final. The judges are:
Nina Baym, Swanlund Endowed Chair and Center for Advanced Study Professor of English, Emerita, and Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Emerita, University of Illinois; Andrew Delbanco, Julian Clarence Levi Professor in the Humanities, Columbia University; James Longenbach, Joseph H. Gilmore Professor of English, University of Rochester. The editors of The New England Quarterly intend to publish the winning essay in a forthcoming issue of the journal.
Essays are now being accepted for consideration. Submissions for the 2006 prize must be postmarked by 30 June 2006. The editors expect to announce the winning candidate in late fall 2006.

Those attending should read, in advance, Professor Kelman's Experiences from 30 Years of Action Research on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, a 23-page essay. Click here to download. For more than 30 years, Harvard University scholar Herbert C. Kelman has been working with Israelis and Palestinians to build peace in the Middle East. Professor Kelman's "action research" projects have focused on interactive problem solving as an approach to this most difficult of all conflicts. Professor Kelman will take questions regarding the Middle East peace process as well as the state of current negotiations and prospects for peace. Herbert C. Kelman is the Richard Clarke Cabot Research Professor of Social Ethics at Harvard University and the author of numerous books and papers on social psychology, international affairs, "unofficial" diplomacy, joint problem-solving workshops, and other topics of interest.     The first Secretary of Commerce, William C. Redfield, was an iron-and-steel executive and author of a book entitled "The New Industrial Day." The first Secretary of Commerce and Labor was George B. Cortelyou.
    Length of Service
    The longest-serving Secretary of Commerce was Herbert Hoover, a mining engineer who directed projects in Australia and for the Chinese before his public service career, which culminated in his election as President of the United States. Hoover served almost seven and a half years. Both William C. Redfield and Malcolm Baldrige served for more than six years. Eight Secretaries served less than a year. Two Secretaries died while in office: Malcolm Baldrige and Ronald H. Brown.
    Women Secretaries
    Juanita Kreps, the first woman and the only economist to serve as Secretary, was vice president of Duke University and a labor demographics specialist.

La guerre terminée, il revient à ses premiers travaux sur la synthèse des stérols, sans abandonner sa collaboration avec Robinson, même après son entrée à l'Institut National du Medical Research Council, d'abord à Hampstead, ensuite à Mill Hill.
