Mr. Wolfstone was born in Spokane and he has lived in Seattle most of his life. He was educated at Whitman College where he studied a broad spectrum of Liberal Arts and majored in Economics before entering Harvard Law School.
While he was undergraduate at Whitman College, Mr. Wolfstone was fortunate to study physics under Dr. Walter Brattain, Phd., who was one of the three scientists at Bell Labs who received the Nobel Prize in 1956 after constructing the first transistor in 1947.
Another Nobel Laureate, Felix Bloch (Physics, 1952), fondly recalls an encounter with his mentor, Dr. Heisenberg, which is recorded for posterity in Physics Today , December 1976, Vol. 29, No. 12, pp. 23-27.
Said Bloch, "I have discovered that space is a matrix of linear forces." Bloch had just read a book entitled
"Nonsense!" replied Heisenberg. "Space is blue, and birds fly through it."

He joined the French Resistance in Lyon in 1942, helping to publish the newspaper Franc-Tireur, a name adopted by the Resistance forces in the region. His activities led to his execution by the Germans. His Strange Defeat (tr. 1949) describes wartime France. Among Bloch's major works are The Historian's Craft (tr. 1953) and French Rural History (tr. 1966). His Feudal Society (tr. 1961) is a brilliant synthesis of the subject. At the Raleigh espionage conference, a subterfuge of spies, lies and family ties
B Y J O N E L L I S T O N

Stage a gathering of spooks, and you never know who might show up. So it was last week, when the North Carolina Museum of History hosted the first Raleigh International Spy Conference. The brainchild of Bernie Reeves, a serious spy buff and publisher of both Metro magazine and the now-defunct Spectator newsweekly, the conference was a rare public gathering of people accustomed to life in the shadows. September 3, 2003

After passing through a lobby display of cloak-and-dagger gadgetsspy cameras hidden in shoe brushes, compasses concealed in cufflinks and the likeattendees entered a dimly lit auditorium to hear from renowned intelligence authors and covert operatives. During the conference's three sessions (and two cocktail partiestrue to the stereotype, spies can hold their liquor), folks swapped stories about Russian espionage against the United States.

Felix Bloch
Bloch, Felix (1905-1983), amerikanischer Physiker schweizerischer Herkunft, geboren in Zürich.
