Susan Werthheimer David Photo caption: Raku vase 15.5 in. height Artist Statement After receiving a master degree in art history at the Institute of Fine Arts in New York City, Susan Wertheimer David began making pots twenty years ago. Having studied the work of many famous artists, expressing herself in clay was a natural progression. Volume and the sense of space around the form are some of the issues Susan examines in her work. Equally important though is the exploration of how these pieces, which exist within the firm reality of three-dimensional form, depend on the ephemeral elements of fire and smoke to create the final product. Working in raku allows Susan to explore this tension between form and environment. email: swdpots@aol.com

Broadcaster Smulyan Bids For Nats - 9/14 - As had been widely rumored, Jeff Smulyan, head of Emmis Communications and former owner of the Seattle Mariners, has submitted a bid to purchase the Washington Nationals. Since Emmis is based in Indianapolis, Smulyan has asked Radio One President Alfred Liggins and communications attorney Richard Wiley - both based in the DC area - to join his ownership committee and give it a local flavor. Emmis has no local broadcast stakes, but it did own WAVA (105.1 FM) in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when it had a contemporary hit format. More in the DC Post and from Radio And Records
Rosenberg Not Happy With Replacement WJFK-FM has yanked Peter Rosenberg (left), who was recently given the 7 PM slot after Ron and Fez left for XM, in favor of former MTVer Colin Quinn. And Rosenberg is "less than thrilled" with the move. Via an audio message at peterosenberg.com , the locally-based talker asks his listeners to e-mail WJFK and Infinity's suits to express their displeasure with out-of-towners Quinn and "his lackey," who Rosenberg says are "two middle-aged white conservatives." DCRTV hears that both Rosenberg and Quinn are auditioning for 106.7's evening slot and that a final decision on a new show has not yet been reached.....
Shales: Cooper Is So Cool Washington Post TV critic Tom Shales in his TV Week column on the CNN superstar: Anderson Cooper (right) "has a newness to him, a wry touch of attitude that he very effectively modulates on the air. It is something that, combined with his visual appeal, could help bring young viewers to news, thus bucking or perhaps even reversing a long and dismaying trend in the other direction... When reading, when talking into the camera and making viewer contact, he is all poise and polish without being slick... He deserves a bigger and better chance than CNN can give him".....
