WILLIAM HENRY LEONARD POE
Janel Timoney The Poe family emigrated to America from Ireland around the year 1750. John Poe, great-grandfather of William and Edgar, moved the family to America where he worked as a day laborer. He was married to Jane McBride, a close relative of an admiral noted in British History. The Poe name can be traced to De la Poe, a Norman companion of the first William, or to German or Danish origins (Wood 14). David Poe was the son of John and worked as a dry goods merchant. During the Revolution, he served as Assistant Deputy Quartermaster for Baltimore. David Poe, Sr. won the honorary title "General" through his services in the revolution. His son David Poe, Jr. was William and Edgar Poe's father (Brenner 142). David and Elizabeth Poe returned to Boston and continued their acting pursuits. On January 19, 1809, Elizabeth Poe gave birth to another son, Edgar Poe. The Poe family did not stay together much longer. In July 1810, David Poe, Jr. deserted his wife and died in Baltimore, a death tainted by a hint of the alcoholism that seemed to run in the family. Elizabeth was left pregnant with their third child, Rosalie, who was born in December 1810. Elizabeth Poe followed her husband to the grave in December of 1811. She had been working in conditions of great poverty as a milliner in Richmond, Virginia (Allan 20). Throughout this time, William Henry had remained with his grandparents. After the death of his mother, he continued to reside with his grandparents. The two other Poe children were taken in by merchants in comfortable circumstances. Edgar was "adopted" by John and Francis Allan, while Rosalie was adopted by Mrs. William Mackenzie.

What David Kay is leaving out of his bio these days is that until 2002, he was VP of SAIC, a company rolling in Bush defense contracts. Kay produced "retroactive" evidence of WMDs for Bush I. Now he's Bush and Tenet's pick to get the goods...tho' he was fired in 1992 from his UN job for unethical behavior. Like Bremer, Rice, Rumsfeld, and the rest of the cast of hardened corporate characters, David Kay is an overfed relic from a past rightwing hawk regime. Under Reagan, he was a chief scientist for the Pentagon [see revelation as to Kay's "scientific background" at

David Zinman
David Zinman took up his post as Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Tonhalle Orchestra, Zurich at the start of the 1995/6 season, having conducted the Orchestra regularly as a guest since 1983. Since 1985 he has been Music Director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. He is also Music Director of the Aspen Music Festival and School. Born in 1936, David Zinman graduated from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, Ohio and pursued advanced work in composition at the University of Minnesota where he was recently awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters. Conducting studies at Boston Symphony's Tanglewood Music Centre brought him to the attention of Pierre Monteux, who guided his musical development and gave him his first important conducting opportunities with the London Symphony Orchestra and at the 1963 Holland Festival, where David Zinman was hailed by critics as a major conducting discovery. David Zinman's tenure with Baltimore Symphony has been distinguished by his programming of an extraordinarily broad repertoire, his strong commitment to the performance of contemporary music, and his introduction of historically informed performance practice. As Music Director he has introduced new programming ideas to the Baltimore Symphony schedule: a summer music festival, a Discovery series devoted to contemporary music, and Saturday morning Casual Concerts featuring informal commentary by the conductor. In the autumn of 1994 he conducted the orchestra on a highly successful tour of the Far East.

Cure for AIDS .... cure for cancer ... cure for tumor
Since the 1980s, scientists have been striving to find better cures for these dreaded diseases. However, not a single cure would have been discovered without the efforts of one distinguished biologist. He led the way to the cure. He encouraged people to join the search for the cure. He is David Baltimore. The world was gifted with one of the most distinguished leaders of science in 1938, the year David Baltimore was born in New York City. Since he was a lad, he had a passion for biology. It was no surprise that he pursued this field relentlessly in Swarthmore College and later in Rockefeller University in 1964 for his doctorate degree. Then, he had three years of post-doctoral research in the Salk Institute, in La Jolla, California. He entered MIT in 1968 and became a full professor there in 1972. Baltimore plunged head-on into the molecular study of animal viruses, and for quite some time focused on the poliovirus. This field gave him the opportunity to discover the enzyme called reverse transcriptase that permits retroviruses to replicate. This led to more ideas regarding cancer and later, AIDS. Because of all these efforts, he was awarded the

BOSTON David Ortiz gave the AL East-leading Baltimore Orioles a taste of what Boston's other rivals got during last year's World Series run. The Red Sox designated hitter hit a game-winning homer on a full count with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning Thursday, giving Boston a 6-4 victory over Baltimore. It was the fifth game-ending homer of Ortiz's career including two in the 2004 playoffs. "He's getting comfortable with being in that situation," Boston manager Terry Francona said. "Like a basketball player who takes the shot at the buzzer, he relishes that. And he's taken a lot of good swings." The Orioles took the lead in the top of the ninth without hitting a ball out of the infield against Keith Foulke Rafael Palmeiro beat out a potential double-play ball. But

By Sports Network David Dellucci's two-out homer in the ninth inning lifted the Texas Rangers over the Baltimore Orioles, 2-1, in the finale of a four-game series at Camden Yards. Dellucci's blast off Baltimore reliever Chris Ray broke a 1-1 tie for the Rangers, who captured three of four from the Orioles. Alfonso Soriano also homered for Texas, which won consecutive games for the first time since winning three in a row from July 8-10. The blast made a winner of Kameron Loe (5-3), who threw an inning of one-hit relief of starter Ricardo Rodriguez. Francisco Cordero worked the ninth for his 24th save of the season. Rodriguez allowed just one run on six hits over seven-plus innings, striking out three and walking three.
