The School
Miguel Angel Asturias Spanish School, named after Guatemala's Nobel Prize-winning novelist, is a non-profit Spanish school owned by a group of experienced Spanish teachers in Quetzaltenango Guatemala. Oriented towards excellence in speaking and understanding spoken Spanish, it also seeks to impart an awareness of the social, political, and cultural realities of Guatemala and Latin America.
The Spanish Instruction Program
The intensive one-on-one classes for five hours daily produce rapid results. Living with a Guatemalan family during the learning experience facilitates use of the language in a variety of situations. Immersion and skilled diagnosis of your needs are key elements of our program.

(Redirected from Miguel Angel Asturias Miguel ngel Asturias October 19 June 9 ) was a Guatemalan writer and diplomat. He was born in Guatemala City and died in Madrid In 1917, Miguel Asturias studied law at the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala where he participated in the 1920 uprising against Guatemalan dictator Manuel Estrada Cabrera . He graduated in 1923 and went to Paris France , to further his education at the Sorbonne . While living in Paris, he was influenced by the gathering of writers and artists in Montparnasse and began writing poetry and fiction. Asturias returned to Guatemala in 1933 where he worked as a journalist before serving in his country's diplomatic corps. When the government of President Jacobo Arbenz fell in 1954, he was banned from the country by Carlos Castillo Armas . While living in exile he became a well known author with the release of his novel, Mulata . Eventually, the new president of Guatemala appointed him as the ambassador to France in 1966, the same year he won the Lenin Peace Prize He was awarded the 1967 Nobel Prize in literature "for his vivid literary achievement, deep-rooted in the national traits and traditions of Indian peoples of Latin America."

Miguel Angel Asturias, recipient of the 1967 Nobel Prize for Literature, was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala. He studied law at the University of San Carlos of Guatemala and ethnology at the Sorbonne in Paris. He later helped found the Popular University of Guatemala. He also founded and edited a radio magazine called EL DIARIO DEL AIRE. Asturias served as a Guatemalan diplomat for several years, but he spent much of his life in exile because he opposed the dictatorial ruler. Asturias published his first major work, LEYENDAS DE GUATEMALA (LEGENDS OF GUATEMALA) in 1930. He is best known for his 1949 novel HOMBRES DE MAIZ (MEN OF MAIZE). Miguel Angel Asturias died in Madrid, Spain in 1974. CHRONOLOGY He was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
