Editor’ Note
: This paper presents some interesting data on the use of technology in by mathematics teachers. It raises issues for pre-service and in-service training of classroom teachers, for curriculum design, and also for the quality of teaching and learning resources available in schools. Is adoption of media to facilitate learning a human problem or a systemic problem in classroom teaching? And is this problem local or global in magnitude?
How Technology is Integrated
into Math Education
Aytekin Isman and Huseyin Yaratan
Abstract
The main focus of this paper is to determine math teachers` perceptions on using educational technology in their classes. Research results indicate that most math teachers do not use educational technology to teach mathematics even though educational technology motivates students to learn more. In addition, t-test and ANOVA results revealed few differences on using educational technology in their classes in terms of math teachers` gender, experience and level of education.
Introduction
Technology is the practical application of science. Technological developments began two hundred years ago when teachers started to use abacus in their classes. After the development of a technology, it impacts the lifestyle of people. For example, computer based systems help people to successfully organize their companies. The Internet helps people to reach information fast.

Students in schools with lower pass rates are three times more likely to be taught by underprepared teachers than students attending schools with the highest passing rates. On average, more than 20% of teachers were underprepared in schools where fewer than two-thirds of the students passed the mathematics portion of the CAHSEE. Sources: CDE, SRI Analysis

    APRIL 2003
    Educating Math Teachers
by Alfred S. Posamentier, Ph.D. It is expected that anyone who is university educated has mastered the first two. It is usually the third, arithmetic (or more accurately mathematics) that is lacking in the arsenal of skills for most lower grade teachers. Why is mathematics competence reserved for the few? To add insult to injury, why are so many adults proud to admit their weakness in mathematics? Is it because of the perception that the majority of the well educated are weak in mathematics, and so being amongst the majority is popular? Or is it that we do not see the direct importance of mathematics as compared to literacy? Perhaps an effort ought to be made to show the multifaceted usefulness of mathematics beyond just some quantitative applications. How many math teachers today are resourceful enough to know the constant interplay between geometry and algebra, or the astonishing illustrations where various probabilities cause us to reassess our natural intuition, or beautiful geometric relationships that can be easily exhibited in a variety of ways, not to mention the role mathematics plays in the arts? Unfortunately too few. Perhaps most important about mathematics instruction is that it provides a wonderful training ground for developing life-long problem-solving skills that can be used in everyday life as well as to solve math problems.

Numerical linear algebra technique to arrive at faster pagerank technology than Google's
Google page rank technology changed the way the world searched the internet. Well, change is constant, we are close to seeing a better technology (or if we call it a emerging technique for now) coming up.
Researchers at Stanford University have developed techniques fr computing Google-style web rankings up to five times faster; As a result of this speed-up it may make 'Topic-sensitive' page rankings feasible.
According to NSF ( National Science Foundation) article: To speed up PageRank, the Stanford team developed a trio of techniques in numerical linear algebra. First, in the WWW2003 paper, they describe so-called "extrapolation" methods, which make some assumptions about the Web's link structure that aren't true, but permit a quick and easy computation of PageRank. Because the assumptions aren't true, the PageRank isn't exactly correct, but it's close and can be refined using the original PageRank algorithm. The Stanford researchers have shown that their extrapolation techniques can speed up PageRank by 50 percent in realistic conditions and by up to 300 percent under less realistic conditions.
The research team at Stanford includes graduate students Sepandar Kamvar and Taher Haveliwala, noted numerical analyst Gene Golub and computer science professor Christopher Manning.
