Victoria's Environmental Sustainability Framework

Victorians must make environmental sustainability a fundamental consideration in everything we do if we are to maximise future economic growth, maintain our quality of life and protect our unique environment.
On 20 April 2005 the Minister for Environment, the Hon John Thwaites MP, launched Victoria's Environmental Sustainability Framework, which will be a key driver of the Government's commitment to make Victoria a world leader in environmental sustainability.
The Framework provides direction for government, business and the community on building environmental considerations into the way we work and live.
The Framework:
  • outlines the key environmental challenges Victoria faces;
  • explains what ' environmental sustainability ' is and why it is important;
  • identifies the strategic directions we must pursue to become environmentally sustainable;
  • sets out objectives to be achieved and interim targets for measuring progress towards the objectives; and

Tuesday, May 8, 2001 Evolution and childraising Sarah Blaffer Hrdy, a scientist writing in the 'Natural History' magazine suggests that, over our evolutionary history, children were more or less co-operatively brought up by mothers very well supported by extended family. She compares this with isolated, unvalued and poorly supported modern day mothers, and asks what long term evolutionary consequences this may have as humans continue to slowly genetically evolve. National Hydrogen Institute of Australia Micro - fuel cells to land in Australia by Jan / Feb 2006..................... Introduction HYDROGEN PICTURE GALLERY HYDROGEN DISCUSSION FORUMS ... olar Hydrogen Research Pty Ltd(96) was the first organisation in Australia to recognise Hydrogen as Australia's future energy carrier. The company's creator Mr Stephen Zorbas then deemed it necessary to create an organisation to justifiably promote awareness in Australia, for hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. Mr Zorbas formed the National Hydrogen Association of Australia Pty Ltd in year 2001.This involved legal structures , web domains, programming etc......,and the payment of all related costs.Mr Zorbas then created a newsletter Hydrogen (H ) News ( ISSN ).The newsletter was issued across Australia from year 2001 every three(3) months, and generated significant awareness by virtue of the fact that most politicians within Australia received it. A letter of commendation was issued to Mr Zorbas in year 2003 by senior political leaders for his newsletter awareness program. Mr Zorbas continued by forming Fuel Cell Institute of Australia Pty Limited in year 2003 ,and thus created the first dedicated organisation in Australia for public and private fuel cell awareness generation( See Fuel Cell Institute of Australia Australian Hydrogen Activity Moonshot 2010 Support Million Solar Roofs The Hydrogen Expedition ... Highlight of the month
IES publishes Forest Fire Report 2004 Every year forest fires cause serious damage to the European natural environment with many casualties among forest fire fighters and civilians. As a basic tool for decision-making, the Joint Research Centre hosts the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), which is a portal for accessing EU-wide information on forest fires. Based on the data contained in EFFIS, the Institute for Environment and Sustainability has now published the Forest Fire Report for the year 2004, in collaboration with DG Environment and responsible authorities in the Member States and Candidate Countries of the European Union. The report shows that compared with the year 2003, when more than 740,000 hectares of land were burnt, 2004 was less dramatic. The area burned was less than half of that in 2004, with correspondingly less impact on the environment and in terms of the number of lives lost. However, this is no reason for complacency. As of 1st August 2005, preliminary figures for 2005 already show 19 people killed in some 70,000 forest fires, which have burned an estimated 140,000 ha.
