Description
The Journal of Environmental Economics and Management publishes theoretical and empirical papers devoted to specific natural resources and environmental issues. For consideration, papers should (1) contain a substantial element embodying the linkage between economic systems and environmental and natural resources systems or (2) be of substantial importance in understanding the management and/or social control of the economy in its relations with the natural environment. Although the general orientation of the journal is toward economics, interdisciplinary papers by researchers in other fields of interest to resource and environmental economists will be welcomed. The course is of twelve months duration, nine months of which are devoted to coursework and three months to the preparation of a supervised dissertation (which accounts for 25% of the final mark). The dissertation is an extremely important part of the course, and no candidate may be awarded the MSc unless they produce a dissertation of at least 'pass' quality.
Like the BSc in EEEM, the MSc in EEEM requires students to take courses in each of the Departments of Environment, Biology and Economics. The core concepts, models and methods of economics and biology are taught in those departments, while the Environment Department offers courses in ecological-economic modelling, environmental economics and environmental management. It also helps to integrate the component disciplines. A summary of the modules currently available are shown in the following table: Environment

Environmental economics
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Environmental economics is a subfield of economics concerned with environmental issues (other usages of the term are not uncommon). In using standard methods of economics, it is distinguished from green economics which subsumes the nonstandard approaches to environmental problems, environmental science environmental studies , or ecology . Quoting from the NBER Environmental Economics program:
[...] Environmental Economics [...] undertakes theoretical or empirical studies of the economic effects of national or local environmental policies around the world [...]. Particular issues include the costs and benefits of alternative environmental policies to deal with air pollution, water quality, toxic substances, solid waste, and global warming.
A related field (or possibly alternative approach to the same field) is ecological economics , which takes as its premise that economics is itself a strict subfield of ecology.

Topics and concepts
Central to environmental economics is the concept of an externality . This means that some effects of an activity are not taken into account when it is priced . Too much pollution may occur if the producer need not take the interests of those adversely affected by the pollution into account. Too little nature conservation may occur if those who undertake such activities are not rewarded in relation to the increase in the quality of life they help to bring about for the general population.
