Of all the threats posed to public lands, Defense facilities contribute more pollution and pose perhaps the gravest threat to public health. The environmental and health impacts of the former Soviet military have been widely reported. Within the United States alone, defense facilities account for more than 30,000 contaminated sites impacting all 50 States. Arc Ecology’s environmental scientists are dedicated to ensuring that the pollution caused by the manufacture, use, and disposal of toxic chemicals, hazardous materials, radiological substances and chemical, biological and nuclear weapons are addressed and that the public’s health is protected. Arc Ecology works toward the cleanup of public lands locally, nationally, and internationally in a variety of ways:

A History of World Agriculture:
From the Neolithic Age to the Current Crisis by Marcel Mazoyer and Laurence Roudart
A History of World Agriculture is a path-breaking and panoramic work, beginning with the emergence of agriculture after thousands of years in which human societies had depended on hunting and gathering, showing how agricultural techniques developed in the different regions of the world, and how this extraordinary wealth of knowledge, tradition and natural variety is endangered today by global capitalism, as it forces the unequal agrarian heritages of the world to conform to the norms of profit. Ecology Against Capitalism by John Bellamy Foster
In a broad-ranging treatment of contemporary ecological politics, Ecology Against Capitalism covers sustainable development, ecological economics, and analyzes technological responses to environmental crisis, including pollution, population growth, soil fertility, the preservation of ancient forests, and the "new economy" of the Internet age. and a comprehensive ethics embracing both humans and nature. I Ching (Book of Changes). the material force of the universe. This is the unifying element of the cosmos and creates the basis for a profound reciprocity between humans and the natural world. Material force as the substance of life is the basis for the continuing process of change and transformation in the universe. The term sheng-sheng,
Comprehensive Ethics
With the Confucian emphasis on the continuity of the family there is a strong ethic of indebtedness to past generations and obligations to descendants. Within this moral framework there is the potential for evoking a sense of self-restraint and communal responsibility toward the environmental well-being of future generations. In other words, the Confucian emphasis on lineage (ensuring continuity from the ancestors to the heirs) may be raised to another ethical perspective, namely, intergenerational obligations toward maintaining a healthy environment. On this basis it could be argued that unlimited development or unrestrained consumption should be curtailed.
