MSc in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management Available

Are you interested in a career in biodiversity conservation, management or research? Are you a biodiversity professional wishing to improve your knowledge and skills? The MSc in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management will appeal to those wishing to develop the skills needed for a successful career in biodiversity conservation, management and research. more Introduction Research carried out by members of the Biodiversity Research Group can broadly be defined as an examination of the characteristics, dynamics and impact of environmental change on biological systems. Our interests are diverse, but tend to focus on the response of species and ecosystems to fundamental environmental controls, and to changes in environments on time scales ranging from the ecological to the geological. Spatial scales addressed range from global to local. The group is made up of staff, postgraduate students, research associates and visitors of the Department of Geography and Environmental Change Institute. The group runs a weekly seminar series during full term. If you are Oxford based and would like to be included in our circulation list, please email

Biodiversity Conservation Crown Land Deer Damage ... Final Biodiversity Action Plan: Released May 2004 Saskatchewan has released the Biodiversity Action Plan, which will guide the conservation actions of all government sectors through to 2009. A key concept of biodiversity is that every living thing, including people, has a connection to every other living thing and its environment. Maintaining the province's biodiversity for now and into the future will take planning, cooperation and commitment from the public, special interest groups and the government. Biodiversity conservation will never be complete, but instead will continue to evolve and grow as time passes and our resource needs and ecological understanding increase. A healthy environment is considered the key component of a foundation for a green and prosperous economy. Conserving Saskatchewan’s Natural Environment: A Proposed Saskatchewan Biodiversity Action Plan, October 2002 This document has been prepared for the second phase of public consultation on Saskatchewan’s Biodiversity Action Plan. The proposed plan includes a vision for biodiversity conservation, statement of principles, five goals and 15 priority objectives and associated actions. An electronic

Hatfield, Herts
Our environment is a wonderful place, so it's no surprise that so many organisations want to nurture and improve it. However, with over 11,000 people and a budget exceeding £500m, we are in a position to do much more than virtually anyone else. We can take on vital projects that fight flooding, protect natural habitats, or manage land. Plus, our profile and government backing means we're deeply involved with major developments such as airport expansions and large housing schemes. In short, this is where your biodiversity skills can be used to maximum effect, and open doors to even more high-profile positions. Essentially, you'll enhance biodiversity in and around London. It's an important role, so as well as a related degree or equivalent, you'll bring significant experience of wildlife conservation and/or environment management and sound relevant legislative knowledge. What's more, as you'll spend time with your team out in the field, experience of the physical and biological processes of wetlands, river habitats and its wildlife is a must. You'll work on external as well as internal projects, so good influencing and organisational skills will come in handy too. It's a lot to ask for, but with big decisions on the environment at stake, you wouldn't expect anything less. A full driving licence is required.

One hundred and eighty soil samples from different parts of Gulbarga region were collected to isolate and identify the pigmented microorganisms and their importance to the biotechnological field. The samples were collected during the period of May to July 2004. A total of 30 pigmented organisms were screened, probably these are of Actinomycetes, mainly Streptomyces from different locations, among them 9 strains have show very good enzymatic activity (Amylases, Protease, Cellulase) at the wide range of pH.(6-13) The Sphingidae of Southeast-Asia
Introduction
The biologically and geographically diverse region lying between tropical oriental Asia and Australia has been the site of fruitful specimen collection and biological investigation since A. R. Wallace's travels in "The Malay Archipelago" (1869). Yet, while there is a wealth of biogeographical information for some taxa (notably birds and mammals), much of the available data on insects is scattered in various museums and private collections and thus not readily accessible. For some of the more popular groups (e.g. some lepidopteran taxa) there are checklists for some countries, islands or regions, but no comprehensive overview of the region.

Island Resources Foundation is a private, non-profit research and education organization with offices in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, Tortola, British Virgin Islands, and Washington DC. Founded by Dr. Ed Towle in 1972, the Foundation is dedicated to solving the environmental problems of development in small tropical islands. Biodiversity Conservation Planning a long-term strategy for public management of a precious and delicate resource like Sandy Cay in the Virgin Islands is complicated. Read a summary of the project at Sandy Cay and read an update and progress report in our 2004 Annual Report. Ed Towle has written a history of attempts to set up Territorial Parks in the US Virgin Islands, dating back to the 1940s. HISTORY OF PROTECTED AREA INITIATIVES.

Links to other sites Imagine a new approach to farming that could assist production, sale of produce, environmental sustainability and conservation of Victoria's native biodiversity. By demonstrating their biodiversity conservation, Victorian producers may have an edge over their competitors that benefits them in the marketplace and back on the farm. The 'Best Agricultural Practice for Native Biodiversity in Grazing Industries' pilot project investigated methodologies that Victorian graziers could use to assist with biodiversity management. A supporting Native Biodiversity Resource Kit has been developed to assist farmers to work towards improved conservation of native biodiversity. The project has been supported by the Naturally Victorian and Our Rural Landscape initiatives of the Department of Primary Industries.
