The World Data Center for
encourages active exchange among scientists through international cooperation. The ocean floor is a natural archive of information on how Earth works and has worked for millions of years. The composition and structure of seafloor sediment and underlying basement crust yield important clues to the evolution of life, ocean-atmosphere dynamics, and the tectonic processes that shaped Earth's continents and ocean basins as we know them today. The World Data Center for MGG, Boulder manages all types of data from the ocean floor including underway geophysical measurements and derived gridded data sets, and descriptions and analyses of geologic samples. Data are contributed by sources from around the world and were originally collected for a variety of purposes, including academic research, international and interdisciplinary scientific projects, mineral resource evaluations, defense, and environmental baseline studies. Data are available at cost of reproduction, or free on exchange. Many data sets are also available for free download.

Aims and scope
Journal of Geophysics and Engineering aims to publicise and promote research and developments in geophysics and in related areas of engineering. It has predominantly an applied science and engineering focus, but solicits and accepts high-quality contributions in all earth-physics disciplines from global geophysics to applied and engineering geophysics, including geodynamics, natural and controlled-source seismology, oil, gas and mineral exploration, petrophysics and reservoir geophysics. It covers those aspects of engineering that bear closely on geophysics or on the targets and problems that geophysics addresses, typically engineering focused on the subsurface, particularly petroleum engineering, rock mechanics, geophysical software engineering, drilling technology, remote sensing, instrumentation and sensor design. The journal is positioned to sit astride the traditional divide between science and engineering where it reflects a growing trend in both industry and academia.
