It will provide the foundation for a career in geomatics research with a marine bias. Geomatics is the inclusive term for the capture, analysis and visualisation of spatial data by many methods. At Plymouth we include hydrography, remote sensing, land surveying, digital mapping and geographical information systems. Duration 1 year full time General programme structure The programme is split into three periods. During period one you will undergo research training as well as gaining a broad overview of the marine sciences. We also concentrate on the delivery of core geomatics modules alongside your chosen option module from a choice of three. Teaching on each module is typically delivered through lectures and seminars (80%), and practical or laboratory classes (20%). In periods two and three you will undertake a dissertation. Possible topics include environmental informatics (such as the use of GIS in monitoring and modelling the coastal environments), acoustic studies and optimising the processing of GPS observables.
