    General Information
A practice-focused emphasis is key to the department's activities. The department's teaching and research programs are recognized nationally for their interdisciplinary components from areas such as architecture, public health, economics, occupational safety, policy, and law. The faculty is committed to integrated teaching and research programs of the highest quality. Visiting faculty from industry insure the relevancy of our programs. We attract a highly diverse group of students who pursue careers in industry, government, consulting practice, and construction.
    Mission Statement
The mission of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department (CEE) is to educate civil engineering students to become leaders in the solution of important societal problems involving the interactions between the natural and built environments. CEE programs make extensive use of information technology for managing complex systems and for integrating the teaching, research, and design components of engineering education. Our program breadth includes linkages between engineering disciplines such as environmental, geotechnical, and chemical engineering, as well as interdisciplinary studies in areas such as architecture, geology, chemistry, and environmental policy.
    Goals
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department's strategic goals have led over the last 30 years to the development of:

Master of Science: Environmental and Water Resources Engineering
The program prepares engineers and scientists for careers which focus on the environmental science, engineering and management aspects of water resources. To complete the Master of Science program students must take five core courses and three concentration electives, and write a thesis. The core courses are designed to give students a broad, yet integrated background in environmental/water quality engineering, hydrology and hydraulics, data analysis, water quality measurements, watershed management and watershed restoration. The concentration and thesis requirements enable students to study areas of particular interest in greater depth. Students wishing to pursue a Ph.D. in environmental and water resources engineering may develop a directed program of coursework and research consistent with their interests and background.
