New College of California is an accredited institution of higher learning whose mission is to integrate education with personal transformation and social change to create a more Just, Sacred, and Sustainable World.
A Just world in the sense that liberation in past and current times has meant the establishment and expansion of rights to an unalienated and fulfilling life; sacred not in any specific religious sense, but referring to the fact that beyond rights there exists a connection amongst all things animate and inanimate which should not be profaned by the pursuit of individual gain; and finally, sustainable in that a just and sacred world should be made available to all across the dimensions of time and space.
Our academic programs and curriculum have been developed to create the pathways for our students to walk toward this better world. We teach of the need to heal from the traumas of living in a much less than just, sacred and sustainable world; to resist the further destruction of people and the planet; to create alternatives which inspire us to live differently in the world; to change consciousness from a reductionist, objectifying paradigm to one more holistic and systemic; and finally of the need to overcome the destructive fallacy of the isolated, autonomous individual and embrace the concept of the communal and ecological self

Insects employ a variety of airborne chemical cues to find and identify resources. Our research is aimed at understanding the theoretical basis of these odor-mediated behaviors, and includes studies of: chemistry of the odors, odor dispersal by wind, orientation maneuvers of flying insects along odor plumes, electrophysiology coupled with plume characteristics at the insect/plume interface, heritability of pheromone blend variability, and modeling odor-tracking behaviors of insects. More information about each of these research areas is available using the "research" links. for questions or problems regarding this website, please contact the webmaster

The Society for Human Ecology (SHE) is an international interdisciplinary professional society that promotes the use of an ecological perspective in both research and application.
SHE' s goals are to:
  • Provide a forum through which scientists, scholars, educators, and practitioners may exchange ideas and information. Promote the advancement of an ecological perspective in interdisciplinary studies and practice. Identify problems, discover their origins, examine possible solutions and their implications, and then make recommendations for implementing those solutions. Look ahead to the consequences of human action on our social, natural, and built environments. Build cooperative arrangements among human ecology programs and organizations throughout the world. Facilitate the exchange of this information throughout an international network of individuals interested in human ecology.
The Society holds regular conferences, conducts workshops and symposia, and
