Virtual Reality (VR) is an immersive environment within which a human can interact that is composed of computer-simulated elements and is animated by a sufficiently high level of computer intelligence to seem realistic to the participating human. To be immersive, an environment must engage a sufficient number of human senses with enough accuracy to give the participating human a sense of engaging a natural environment. Given current technologies, this level of engagement generally includes images covering most of the human field of vision with reasonable clarity, relatively high-fidelity sound, and at least rudimentary human-computer interaction based on head and hand motion. More advanced levels of haptic (touch) interaction engaging movement of other portions of the body and other senses such as taste and smell are useful to enhance realism, but generally are not required to meet the definition of virtual reality given today’s technology. The minimal criteria for virtual reality will likely increase as technology advances. To be interactive, an environment must respond to human behavior with a high enough level of appropriateness and speed to give a participating human a sense similar to interaction with real world objects. With current technologies, this generally involves achieving a certain level of computer response to the position, motion, and orientation of the participating human's head or eyes and that of at least one hand. Computer response to the position, orientation, and configuration of the rest of the participating human's body is important, but is not currently included in the minimal specification for virtual reality. This also will change as technology advances.

Relying on old blue prints or hastily drawn sketches in an emergency response situation is dangerous and unreliable. Tactical VR technologies enable you to take a virtual tour of any building, allowing your team members to "pre-visualize" the operational environment giving you a greater awareness of possible hazards that lurk "behind that door."

The Journal of Virtual Reality and Broadcasting
What does j vr b mean?
The Journal of Virtual Reality and Broadcasting - abbreviated "j vr b" - is an open access online journal covering topics related to the fields of Virtual Reality, Interface Techniques, Computer Graphics and Interactive Broadcasting. A detailed description of all topics can be found in the scope section. j vr b is part of the DiPP-NRW-Project. j vr b is issued continuously and in electronic form only.
What is DiPP?
j vr b is part of the DiPP-NRW-Project. The acronym "DiPP" stands for "digital peer publishing". The ideas behind this project are to achieve an increase in the number of high-quality scientific e-journals, to establish new forms of net-based cooperative information exchange, and, finally, to distribute the use of such novel techniques. For this purpose, a fast, open, and transparent digital peer publishing system was established, which is accessible to an international scientific community. Hosted journals are published under an "Open Publishing Licence". Go to www.dipp.nrw.de

120. Virtual Reality Bonampak Murals
Includes downloadable highresolution images requires Virtus Player.
http://www.halfmoon.org/bonampak.html
From the other models here, you might draw the conclusion that the interior rooms of Mayan buildings were devoid of any decoration. But at a few Mayan sites, wall paintings have survived, and of these, none are more spectacular than the murals in the three rooms of Structure 1 at Bonampak,. Due to the limitations of the medium, these recreations are not the best way to view the fine detail of the murals (for that, I recommend Mary E. Miller's The Murals of Bonampak , Princeton University Press, 1986, which includes a detailed analysis as well). The intention is rather to give a sense of the murals in the rooms themselves. The murals here are adapted from Antonio Tejeda's drawings as presented in Mayan Cities by Paul Rivet (G.P. Putnam, 1960).
Room 1
The events portrayed in the three rooms took place between 790-792 AD. In room 1 the theme has been taken to represent the presentation of the heir to the throne, together with celebrations of this event. The upper registers of the murals show the Bonampak ruler, Chan Muwan, seated on a dais with his senior wife while (one of?) his junior wives stands by a ritual bundle. A small child, presumably the future heir, stands before them. On two of the surrounding walls, a group of ahawob' (lords) garbed in white capes look on. On the north wall of the upper register, Chan Muwan and two other dignitaries dress in elaborate jaguar pelt and quetzal feather costumes. Around the lower register of the walls is a procession of musicians and others, while on the south wall, Chan Muwan and the two others, now fully garbed, prepare to dance.
