Why not try our Mail Server or FTP Server Hosting services can often cost hundreds and even thousands of dollars a year. For this reason, many businesses and personal users are now making the effort to save money by setting up their own server. This page aims to provide an easy to follow guide that will bring you up to speed on self hosting. Why not try our Mail Server or FTP Server Step 4: Domain Registration
This page explains how to choose the right domain name for you.
Registering Your Domain Name
Before you can do anything else, you need a domain name. This can be a very dull and boring process, simply because the best names are always taken, so be prepared to spend hours searching for the perfect name. There are plenty of domain name registering companies on the Internet, many of which offer good low prices and almost all offer a quick search facility that allows you to check if a name has been taken. We used register.com who charged about $35 a year per domain name. When registering your domain name with your chosen registrar, you should be careful that you are not signing up for any hosting or email packages. If you want to host the site yourself, it would be a complete waste of money to pay for any extra packages.
Free Domain Names
Although a domain name is probably the best and most professional approach to owning a website, some people cannot afford or do not require this luxury. However, there is another approach that still gives you the ability of self hosting for free. A company called no-ip offer a free service which allows you to use a sub-domain of various domains as your domain name. If we decided that we didn't want to pay for www.code-crafters.com, we could have had a free name such as www.code-crafters.hopto.com. Our emails would also have looked like user@code-crafters.hopto.com and would still work with all the same potential.

Have scripting languages peaked?
Well, since language popularity seems to be overly emphasized in any discussion on PL, thought the following article on Have scripting languages peaked? would be of interest. A recent study from Evans Data Corp... The study, published on Thursday, found that the number of people using PHP for development in Europe, Middle East and Africa fell by over 25% last year and that the number of developers who would not evaluate PHP for future product grew by almost 40 percent. Similarly, Perl and Python also saw significant drop-offs in usage and planned usage. I think of Perl, PHP, Python and Ruby as mainstream programming languages, but it would seem that many consider them to be Strange or Exotic By Chris Rathman General login or register other blogs

Then he will detail step by step instructions to build sample code for an IIS hosted and self hosted Indigo web service. In the first article in this series , we discussed the basics of Indigo web services. We also explored the programming structures available in Indigo and built a small web service application. self hosting for Home and SOHO. If you already have a domain name of your own, but don t self host, this conversion is likely performed by your ISP.

Self Hosting for Home and SOHO
    Introduction
With the growing number of areas that can access always-on high speed internet connections and growing sophistication of free software, a new possibility is presented to both small and home based businesses, as well as domestic users with mutiple PCs. Many functions that were impractical, too costly or indeed just plain impossible for the dialup generation, are now open. This article outlines how one can unhook oneself from ISP lock-in and at the same time take a step up in both functionality and ease of use.
    The Anvil Organisation
's own system is a concrete example of the concepts outlined by this article
    ISP Lock-in
The domestic user is in a similar position. More and more people are using email in preference to the post office and the phone to keep in contact with friends and relations. Switching address is quite frankly a pain. Try it a few times if you don't believe me. You run the definite risk of losing touch with people who don't write so often. Sit back a moment and think how many people you know, whos email address you have, but nothing else.
It is used to be prohibitively expensive and complicated to have a domain name of one's own. This is no longer the case and in fact hasn't been the case for some little while. If you take the obvious direct route to having your own, it may well seem that it still is. Many ISPs still treat having your own domain name as the preserve of large corporates and price it accordingly. It no longer costs that much to do.
