GIMP for Mac OS X
Getting and Installing the GIMP
There are various ways to obtain and install the GIMP for your Macintosh. In addition to the source code distribution here on www.gimp.org, there are various alternative sources for packaged and commercially distributed CDs, which aim to make installation and setup an easier task. These include:
  • Gimp.app provides a self contained application bundle of the GIMP for OS X. Gimp.app requires Apple's X11.app. Gimp.app is packaged by Aaron Voisine. Fink is a package management system that provides everything necessary to build GIMP. The Fink project is based upon the Debian apt-get package management tools, and can resolve dependencies among the various components necessary for a working GIMP installation. A typical install, however, will require that you have a working C compiler, which Apple supplies on a companion CD to Mac OS X. The current gimp package maintainer for the Fink project is Alexander Strange . The default location for GIMP when installed with fink is /sw/bin/gimp In a similar approach

Overview:
Some of you have probably read a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book as a young child. The premise was simple: read through the book, make a decision at certain points, and go to that page to read on. Some of your choices were right ones, leading to discovery or freedom. Others were wrong and led to capture or even death. King of Dragon Pass seems to be built around that basic idea, and is based in the Glorantha setting from the game Rune Quest. It also adds resource management, social interaction, and an exploration of religion and its effect on your clan. Is King of Dragon Pass a fun game? Is it easy to play? Read on to find the answers...

107. Macintosh Logic Board Battery Information
Pages that describe how to recognize the symptoms of and fix a dead battery in macintosh computers.
http://www.academ.com/info/macintosh/
Welcome To The Macintosh Battery Web Page!
These pages began when I wanted to answer the question - "How do I replace my logic board battery?" (but they also document some other useful or interesting battery information). This question often follows the question - "Why is it that when I boot my Macintosh, the monitor is set to "Black and White" and the date is wrong?" These pages are NOT designed to show the user how to dismantle their computer. A lot of that information has been included and more is being added all the time - but the pages were made possible by my clock-chipping activities. There are other sites that do provide some more of that information; see the links at the bottom of this page. Symptoms The first symptom of this problem is frequently when your desktop Mac does not want to start. This can be a sign that the SoftPower circuit is not getting enough power from the battery to start the Mac (the battery also handles ADB control and the SoftPower circuit). But this is often not recognized as a battery problem. Thanks to Richard Hill for the information about the ADB and SoftPower circuit.

RPSGT Tech Training Macworld Boston Cancelled posted by aaronvegh on Friday September 16, @10:44AM from the going-going-gone! dept. Who needs bonanza shows when you have unscheduled press events? Way cheaper to put on, I suppose, but there was a certain je ne sais quoi to having a major East Coast gathering of the Mac faithful. But now Macworld Boston is gone for good . I'll never forget my trip to MWNY 1998. It seems so strange that IDG World Expo is the only dissenting voice in what otherwise seems like great times for Apple. Or perhaps as Apple is becoming more mainstream, the so-called "radical fringe", represented by folks like you and I, are diminishing? What is your response, MacSlash?
