It's got to be seen to be believed. Tiny, with a beautiful shiny color screen, it's an absolute jewel of a device. A must have. No one can resist. I would have stolen one at the launch event if I could have got away with it. Apple's going to sell boatloads of the nano, and its stranglehold on the digital music market must be almost complete. Tim Bajarin, president of Creative Strategies , a market research firm, said Apple could possibly sell 12 million iPod nanos in the upcoming holiday quarter alone. "The iPod nano is the most important product for Apple," he said at Tuesday's launch event in downtown San Francisco. "This is where the volume is going to be. This is going to be the hottest tech toy this Christmas." Apple has sold 22 million iPods since the gadget's 2001 launch; 6 million of them were sold in the June 2005 quarter. The most popular model is the mini, which the nano replaces. "A product like this could easily help Apple gain market share," Bajarin added. "It's extremely difficult for Creative or any of the other competitors to gain any ground on Apple, including Sony."

Still obsessed with the latest, waifish iPod we can't wait for this crazy astro-turf looking case to ship, but in the meantime, we swaddled ours up diaper-style in a luxurious swath of Optex - we're not crafty enough to stitch it up like this . Of course, we all know it's what's on the inside that counts, but as Mac addicts, we appreciate every aspect of a product's industrial design - packaging included. If you think you're above all that, check this Wired News story and tell us you can't relate. Some folks even go so far as making furniture and sculptures out of the stuff, while some get up close and personal enough to make some of us uncomfortable (if only wondering what such a saucy Amish lass is doing with a Power Mac G5). And speaking of evolution you can alpha test the future in SeaMonkey , an evolving Mozilla-based Web kit that packs all of the usual acronyms: POP and IMAP email, WYSIWYG HTML authoring, IRC chatting, and one that's not so common: XPCOM (AKA cross platform component object model). Oh, and we can't resist - is that the entire Daf Yomi in your pocket, or you just happy to see us?
