http://emustatus.rainemu.com/emu.htm
Emulators Updated: Released arcade emulators Name: RAINE Home page: http://www.rainemu.com/ Description: This is a fast assembly-based emulator, Raine is focused on games manufactured by Taito and Jaleco, it was the first emulator to support "Chase HQ", back in the time when most of the emulator authors only seemed interested in beat'em ups, shoot'em ups and other games with weak hardware. This is one of the biggest arcade emulators out there, only surpassed by MAME, but considering the hundreds of programmers that contribute to MAME, it's clear that Antiriad (and the Raine team) had a great dedication and was one of the programmers to have made the biggest contribution for arcade emulation. Latest Version: v0.35 - 26th February 2002 Download for: DOS Windows Game count: 215 (Unique) Name: System 16 Home page: http://www.system16.com/emu-s16.htm Description: System 16 supports Sega 8-bit and 16-bit games like "Out Run" and "Super Hang-On" it is a very fast emulator, highly recommended to play "Out Run" (with an analog PC steering wheel ;) ).

By Howard Wen June 4, 1999 Imagine buying a "next generation" audio CD player that doesn't work with your present CD library every four years or so. That's the strangely inefficient model under which the video game console business has always thrived. The game industry has grown up around successive generations of hardware, like the original Nintendo game box or the Sony PlayStation. Consumers benefited since competing formats spurred the advancement of video game technology. And the companies that owned a gaming platform made money through licensing fees, which third-party game developers pay for the right to make games for the company's console.

As it is not an emulator, but rather a recreation, I took the opportunity to add a couple additional features including colour support I did this project for several reasons. Computers these days have made programming inaccessible to the average person. I wanted to reclaim the "old ways" a bit, where a person could tinker, learn and share what they've found. I chose a simple BASIC like Level I BASIC because I wanted something easy for people to learn.

170. The Legalities Of Emulators
This is a rather lengthy discussion of the legalities of emulators and how emulators can serve many other purposes. They can provide education of the
http://www.cris.com/~Twist/atari800win/legal.shtml
Is this legal? (new and expanded!) I've really had enough of the misinformation (dare I say lies?) and general FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) being spread on the issue of legalities in emulation by both sides of the argument. This is a rather lengthy discussion of the legalities of emulators and how they pertain to Atari800Win. I will mostly be discussing related to the IDSA (International Digital Software Association) actions and their FAQ read the law yourself . Understanding rights is not the exclusive province of lawyers. General Overview: Legalities of Emulators Part 1:Making an emulator in the first place Please note that I am only discussing the legality of an emulator itself here (my definition of an emulator being, a program which incorporates in a software only or hardware/software combination the ability to run code - either hardware or software - from a different computer platform or operating system). Downloaded ROMs are mentioned later (short version: they really are illegal). I am also making the assumption that an emulator discussed here was built completely on the principle of reverse engineering . This is generally understood to mean mimicking the behavior of an existing code base without copying it, achieving the same behavior but with different code. Sometimes in the process of reverse engineering code on the original platform is decompiled or disassembled into an intermediate form so how it behaves can be determined. Reverse engineering does

Free PC / Intel i86 Emulators and Virtual Machines
Intel x86 emulators imitate an Intel x86 (or AMD) machine (such as a Pentium or Athlon) on platforms that may or may not have an Intel/AMD processor. Using such an emulator, you can install and run i86-based operating systems like Windows even on systems like the Macintosh. Even if you are already using a machine with an Intel or AMD chip, they can be useful in allowing you to run two different operating systems simultaneously (eg to test software, etc). Since such software have to emulate all the processor's instructions, they can be excrutiatingly slow. If you are already using an x86 machine, you might want to choose a virtual machine instead, which only virtualizes hardware other than the CPU. Note that this page does not list commercial PC emulators and virtual machines. If you need a commercial solution for their support, completeness of implementation, speed, etc, you might want to take a look at one of the following.

180. Computer Emulation Framework
A common application framework for computer hardware emulation. It is flexible enough to emulate any hardware produced to date. CEF is used to create computer emulators.
http://cef.sourceforge.net/
Computer Emulation Framework The Computer Emulation Framework (CEF) is an application framework and specification for the purposes of emulating various computer hardware configurations in software. The goals are: 1) to provide a framework which is at a low-enough level to allow accurate emulation and simulation of any hardware that exists to this time, but without being so low level that the speed of emulation makes the resulting application useless. 2) to provide a consistent base user interface for emulators. 3) to speed development of emulators by providing several general-use components. Uses for CEF include low-level debugging, simulation of unavailable hardware, and emulation of one computer on another. View the specification Download CEF32 application and sources (cef.zip) - 3 Mb
