Numerical data may be downloaded in various formats, which are described below.
ASCII
ASCII data with a human readable file. Not always the easiest to parse by computer but self-explanatory. The data is separated from the header by a blank line.
Matlab
Two versions of Matlab data are available. If you are using MIA you should select "Matlab format, MIA object", otherwise select the struct version.
Matlab format, MIA object
An object (or an array of objects) containing data from the selected instrument(s). MIA objects may be loaded without the MIA toolbox but warnings will be given for the unknown classes, and object will be converted into struct s. All metadata from MIA is preserved.
Matlab format, struct
A struct (or an array of struct s) containing data from the selected instrument(s). Data is saved in a field called data . Important metadata is preserved in the remaining fields. The struct field names should be self-explantory.

We have developed a data format for MultNet that seems to be a pretty data formats. Two file types one for node attributes and one for link attributes.
http://www.sfu.ca/~richards/Pages/dataform.htm
We have developed a data format for MultNet that seems to be a pretty good one for most types of analysis. It allows very complex data structures to be used and makes them easy to work with. It works for very large networks as well as situations where you have lots of variables describing both nodes and links.
Data Formats
  • Two file types: one for node attributes and one for link attributes. The node file describes only nodes; the link file describes only links.
  • Three file formats: fixed, free, matrix.
    • Node files may be either fixed or free format.
    • Link files may be fixed, free, or matrix format.
    • Both fixed and free format files are rectangular cases by variables collections of data. Each case in the node file is associated with an identification number. ID numbers may range from 1 to n, or they may take other values, such as social security numbers or apartment numbers. The first variable for a case should always be the ID number. The name of the ID number variable is "id."
    • In the link file, each link is a case, and each case has two ID numbers. The first identifies the node "sending" or describing the link. The second identifies the node "receiving" the link. The names of the ID number variables are "id1" and "id2." The first two variables for a case should always be the ID numbers.
    Fixed format
The Fixed format file starts with the keyword "fixed" which appears by itself on the first line of the file.

Data entry requires three separate input files. The three data files contain the genotype (i.e. marker) data, the map information and the phenotype (i.e. trait) data, respectively.
All data files should be in plain text with space or tab separated data.
An example of the top few lines of simple input files is given below, with description of the contents of each line below.

Here the grandparental lines are called LW and MS and the F1 and F2 are simply called F1 and F2, respectively.

Data Formats In the previous chapter you have learned about different databases that store a variety of information. Each database has its own data format, even though sometimes they share the exact same information as e.g. GenBank, EMBL and DDBJ. To make use of the databases, often the information of interest has to be parsed from the flat file and converted in a different format that can then be used by sequence analysis programs. Data formats discussed in this section will be:
    • FASTA GenBank EMBL XML
You will see examples for each of these formats, process and convert some entries.

The first 5 lines of the file are always present and contain information on the internal layout. To simplify use by other packages, the number of Q values and the number of lines to be skipped before the simple table of Q, S(Q) errS(Q) values are found are written in the first line. To allow programs, e.g. SPOLLY to annotate the components used in the treated spectra additional text lines may be included . Similarly there is provision for users to develop their own programs, and store additional real parameters in a supplementary region of the file. The overall layout of the file is in sections as follows: 1/ - Title line 2/ - Key line (identifying the originating instrument) 3/ - Indexing for remainder of file 4/ - identification of program, date of recording 5/ - additional text lines (usually creation history) 6/ - parameters 7/ - user's additional parameters (maximum 20) 8/ - PDH parameters 9/ - lines of Q, S(Q) and errS(Q)

Data Files for FAST consists of a grid file, containing the coordinates of the points on the grid and, if unstructured, connectivity information. Additional files - solution and function files - provide vectors, scalars and other information. The data format that FAST uses is called Plot3d. The grids may be structured or unstructured , which is sometimes called finite element data or triangulated data. Data files may contain more than one "zone".The files can be binary, produced either by C or`q FORTRAN programs, or text files. Here we will discuss only single zone text files. Multiple zone files are similar. Contact the graphics support coordinator, or the FAST User Guide for more information.

    3D Grid Files
A structured grid consists of 3 integers, the dimensions of the grids followed by all the x-coordinates, then the y-coordinats and lastly the z-coordinates. It doesn't matter how many entries there are per line.

The aim of this page is to provide sources toward a provisional typology of online publishing. It is intended to provoke thinking about how we might resolve the activity into a set of useful categories. No attempt is therefore made to be complete or to judge items for quality other than their usefulness in illustrating potential categories of publication. Contributions that add to sparsely populated kinds or, especially, those that demand new categorisation altogether are most welcome. Suggestions should be sent to Willard McCarty, Willard.McCarty@kcl.ac.uk This edition of the Overview entirely supersedes the previous version.

An array element can be any other data element a string, an array, a dictionary, etc. Below is the formal syntax for the Dictionary and Array formats
    http://www.stalker.com/CommuniGatePro/Data.html
    Data Formats
The CommuniGate Pro Server processes most types of data as generic objects . This section describes the generic, fundamental object types used in all Server components. For each object type, a textual representation of the object data is specified. When an object is stored in a file, sent in a CLI/API command response, or extracted from the Server in any other way, the object textual representation is used. When the Server reads an object from outside (from a settings file, from a CLI command, etc.), it converts the provided textual representation into an internal object.
    Strings
Strings are basic, unstructured textual data objects.
A textual representation of a string is either an atom - a sequence of latin letters and digits, or a quoted string - a sequence of any printable symbols except the quotation mark and the backslash symbol enclosed into the quotation marks (
Examples: MyName My2ndName "My Name with spaces and the . symbol"
If you want to include the quotation mark symbol into a quoted string, include the backslash symbol and the quotation mark, if you want to include the backslash symbol into a quoted string, include two backslash symbols.

    Transform Your Data With XSL

    By Kurt Cagle
XSL, on the other hand, is a transformational language. It can take an XML document (or a rigorously valid HTML document) and convert it to another XML document, an HTML document, a printable HTML document, a standard ASCII text file, a proprietary text format, or conceivably even a binary representation. Given that a significant proportion of all computer programs out there exist for the sole purpose of transforming one set of data into a different set of data, the potential for XSL is in some respects even broader than the already burgeoning interest in XML. From the Web developer's standpoint, you can achieve the greatest flexibility using a combination of all three technologies: XML contains the data, CSS, either in the form of external style sheets or internal style attribute, handles the presentation, while XSL is used to modify the structure of the document. By separating out the pieces in this fashion, you get the added benefit of being able to modify the data, specify alternative presentation layers, and control which content gets delivered where independently of one another.
