The Problem
Author: Mike Healan There is a despicable trend that is becoming more and more common wherein the browser settings of web surfers are being hijacked forcibly by malicious web sites and software which modifies your default start and search pages. Sometimes internet shortcuts will be added to your favorites folder without asking you. The purpose of this is force you to visit a web site of the hijacker's choice so that they artificially can inflate their web site's traffic for higher advertising revenues. In some cases, these changes are reversible simply by going into internet options and switching them back. Not always, however. Sometimes it's necessary to edit the windows registry (gasp!) to undo the changes made. Sometimes there is even a combination of registry setting and files clandestinely placed on your hard drive that redo your settings every time you reboot the computer. No matter how often you change your settings back, they are changed again the next time you restart. There have even been cases where internet options have been removed from the tools menu by registry hacking to prevent you from controlling your own computer!

One of the biggest pains about making Web pages is having to keep track of which browsers support what features. Wouldn't it be nice if there were some way to keep track of it all? Well, we've whipped up a few articles and charts to make things easier for you. You can keep track of all the nitty-gritty design issues (the size of form elements in different browsers, a to-the-pixel comparison of font sizes, and so on) or sniff out which browser a user is running. And then we've got this chart, which tells you what each version of the major browsers supports. NOTE: This page only covers browsers that run on Microsoft Windows. If you're looking for browsers for other platforms, try our browser charts devoted to Macintosh Unix/Linux , and other operating systems.

    Mozilla SVG Project
There has recently been an important change to SVG enabled builds: SVG is now enabled by default ( Bug 292160 ). In older builds, you had to set the 'svg.enabled' pref to 'true'
    Introduction
Since you have come this far, you probably already know that SVG stands for Scalable Vector Graphics, and that it is an XML language for sophisticated 2-dimensional graphics. SVG is to graphics what XHTML is to text, MathML is to mathematical equations and CML is to the description of chemical molecules. SVG is similar in scope to Macromedia's proprietary Flash technology: among other things it offers anti-aliased rendering, pattern and gradient fills, sophisticated filter-effects, clipping to arbitrary paths, text and animations. What distinguishes SVG from Flash, is that it is a W3 recommendation (i.e. a standard for all intents and purposes) and that it is XML-based as opposed to a closed binary format. It is explicitly designed to work with other W3C standards such as CSS, DOM and SMIL.
    A simple example
In case you're curious what SVG looks like, here's an example:

Fullfeatured web browser, written entirely in Emacs-Lisp, for any flavor of Unix, Windows NT/95, AmigaDOS, OS/2, and VMS.
    http://www.cs.indiana.edu/elisp/w3/docs.html
Emacs/W3 is currently being rewritten to better support Emacs 21 and XEmacs 21. If you would like to help, please see the GNU.org w3 page for details. Emacs/W3 is a full-featured web browser, written entirely in Emacs-Lisp, that supports all the bells and whistles you will find in use on the web today, including frames tables stylesheets , and much more. Emacs/W3 runs on most major operating systems, including almost any flavor of Unix, Windows NT/95, AmigaDOS, OS/2, and VMS. Emacs/W3 4.0.47 is the first release of Emacs/W3 in a very very long time, and is a minor update to make the old code-base work with Emacs 21. Please read the documentation carefully if you are upgrading. If you run into any problems, please read the FAQ to see if you have run into a common problem. Emacs/W3 supports asynchronous connections, allowing users to browse numerous sites concurrently, while others continue to download. Tight integration with the standard Emacs mail and news reading packages allows easy sharing of information. And since Emacs is first and foremost the most powerful editor around, the information you uncover on the web can immediately be put to work. With Emacs/W3, you have yet another reason to never leave Emacs. For all the non-believers, this really is a good thing
