julia wolfe
Sospeso presents the first American concert retrospective of Julia Wolfe's music at the Miller Theatre in New York on Thursday, February 28. Mark your calendars! In an age of trends and fashions, movements and anti-movements, genre and sub-genres, Julia Wolfe's life and work defy easy categorization. On the surface, she seems the quintessential composer for the 90s—New York-based, politically aware, and, don't forget, female—and in fact her career has been appropriately meteoric. In the last few years she has sprung into the consciousness of the musical cognoscenti through a few startlingly individual and unforgettable works for orchestra, string quartet, large brass ensemble, six pianos, and chamber ensemble, and she is now rightly regarded as one of the key musical voices of her generation. Given all this, one would ordinarily expect something post-minimal or pre-millennial, something filled with fin-de-siecle hipness, something befitting the "latest thing." But when one hears her music, the catch-phrases immediately become inadequate and simplistic. Born in Philadelphia in 1958, her resume is bedecked with degrees and prizes: doctoral work at Princeton, MM from Yale where she studied with Martin Bresnick, a Fulbright Fellowship, and a generous assortment of commissions and awards from the Koussevitzky Foundation, Kronos Quartet, the Library of Congress, Cary Trust, Meet the Composer, the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, and other august bodies. Her pieces have been performed by an equally prestigious cast of characters: the San Francisco Symphony, the Bang on a Can All-Stars, the American Composers Orchestra, Piano Circus, Orkest de Volharding, the Cassatt Quartet, the Lark Quartet, and Le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne. Her work for theater includes music for Anna Deveare Smith's play

Would anyone have information on Letisha Wolf c 1842 who married Colby Dalton in 1860? I have a Letisha Wolfe as the daughter of Christopher Wolfe, not sourced. This Colby who may be Letisha's husband was born 1842 Grainger Co.,
TN.
Next I have a Colby Dalton with a wife Julia. This Julia was with her Colby in 1880 Grainger Co., TN census with children Maranda, Viola, Lizzie, Ester, Oscar, Horace. My information says that this Julia was a Greenlee but I do not have that info sourced.
I also have Victoria Greenlee who married a Colby Dalton. Would anyone know which Colby this would have been, and how Julia may or may not be related to Victoria.
Victoria Greenlee's brother William married a Martha Dalton. I would like to know if she is the daughter of Coalby Dalton and Elizabeth McGinnis. (Grace?) Thanks

EPA Deputy Administrator Fred Hansen Visits One of California's Model Reuse Programs: L.A. SHARES On March 27, Deputy Administrator Fred Hansen and Region IX Administrator Felicia Marcus participated in a tour of the L.A. SHARES materials reuse program, along with many other interested parties in the Los Angeles community. And of course, everyone was impressed because if there was ever a win-win-win story, this is it! The L.A. SHARES materials reuse program is a non-profit organization that brokers all kinds of donated surplus materials from businesses (computers, satellite dishes, paper, copy machines, etc...) and distributes them, free of charge, to schools and charitable groups. Donors receive a tax deduction based on their valuation of contributed materials, while schools and the non-profit community throughout Los Angeles County benefit from useful and necessary materials. L.A. SHARES picks up these donations by appointment and at no charge.

    Cultural exchange By Karen Braynard
Correspondent Twenty-three years ago, Manchester's former mayor, Emile Beaulieu, helped the city start a cultural tradition that is still thriving today. Every year, a handful of high school students from Manchester Central, West and Memorial high schools welcome students from Kathe- Kollwitz Gymnasium (high school) of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Manchester's partner city in Germany. In return, many of these same American students will travel to Germany to complete this cultural exchange. During a tour of Ellis Island in New York, the German travelers got a wide-angle view of the New York skyline. In back from left are teacher Andrea Frank, Sarah Moll, David Krebs, Caroline Albert, Kerstin Petroll, Max Lutzel, Erika Bitter, Simon Klohr, Helene Wolf, Philipp Humm, Isabella Hanschke, Isabel Wolfe, Julia Bauer, Matthias Lehner, Sarah Bentz, Philipp Bentz, Sarah Hoffman and teacher Ute Clemens. In front are Eva Bassarak, Theresa Lang, Carolin Merz, Frederike Engel and Stefanie Dick. (Photo courtesy of Philipp Humm) The German students spent a quick-paced three weeks with their American "families." And indeed, for many of them, they are now considered family. Philipp Humm, a German student, said students can only visit once with this particular exchange program, but that his host friend, Ryan Clark of Bedford, said Humm could visit them again anytime.
