[Applause] BC: Thanks very much, Marshall. Certainly I'd like to join in congratulating Sydney Spring. It's not quite over yet, Roger and Barrie [Woodward and Plews], but certainly the parts I've been able to get to have been wonderful and I look forward to the rest of today's program; and of course, the New Music Forum, for inviting me to talk to you today. Home Composers Carl Vine updated 3 May 1999 In Australia's diverse and evolving musical climate, Carl Vine has a firmly established reputation as a prodigiously gifted composer. His catalogue includes some twenty works for dance, music for film and theatre, electronic music and numerous solo instrumental and chamber works. In more recent years, he has emerged as a composer of major orchestral works, with four symphonies to his credit and more on the way. His works are among the most widely performed in Australia, and many are available on commercial recording. Born in 1954 in Perth, Western Australia, he studied piano with Sephen Dornan and composition with John Exton at the University of Western Australia. Moving to Sydney in 1975, he worked as a freelance pianist and composer with a wide variety of ensembles, theatre and dance companies. He has been resident composer with the Sydney Dance Company (1978), the London Contemporary Dance Theatre (1979), the New South Wales State Conservatorium (1985), the Australian Chamber Orchestra (1987), and the Western Australian University (1989). In 1979 he was co-founder of the contemporary music ensemble Flederman, which specialised in the performance of new Australian music and presented many of Carl's own works. He has given the premiere performance of several Australian works for solo piano, and has appeared as conductor and pianist in Europe, the United Kingdom and the USA. From 1980 to 1982 he was Lecturer in Electronic Music Composition at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.

In 1963, David Burnham became senior pastor and, in 1973, we opened the present Akron Campus Worship Center, serving nearly 4,500 people. Late 1970s to 2000 We became a great big community, using every inch of our Akron Campus for worship, ABFs, programs for kids, teens, singles, and families, as well as university, international, and cross-cultural ministries. We were also a launching point for a variety of missions opportunities.
