The musician talks about his guitar-fueled solo album, By Marc Weidenbaum Though Western Violence was released in 2007, after Collins had relocated from San Francisco to Albuquerque, its rural appeal is, according to him, something of a coincidence. Much of the album was recorded before he ever left the West Coast, which seems fitting. All that aural expanse and all that seeming soundscape-as-landscape artistry is, in the end, the result of his imagination. Marc Weidenbaum: One of the things that strikes me foremost about the album is the balance of field recordings and the mesh of instrumentation and effects that you impose on the field recordings. Do you seek out field recordings to serve a sound you already have in your head, or do you take a field recording that intrigues you and then work on it? William Fowler Collins: Weidenbaum: What was it like leaving an area as dense with electronic music activity as the Bay Area for where you live now? Collins: Weidenbaum: From the title and sounds on Collins: I was actually still living in San Francisco when I chose the title . It came from the beginning of the film Once Upon a Time in the West Weidenbaum: Collins: It has been inspiring, yes. I think he helped me introduce more melodic elements into my music. I love his scores for the westerns and I also like his horror movie soundtracks. The Dario Argento film he scored

Loose Ends/Connections and Feedback ... Fit In?
The Internet is a globally based, non-centralized computer network that is designed to enable computers to communicate with each other through a number of standard protocols. The most basic of Internet connections is available to anyone with a computer, modem and phone line. Further up the scale are Internet nodes and portals, which are companies or educational institutions that control access to the Internet, carry Internet content, and route Internet data to other nodes and portals. America Online is an example of an Internet portal. The content of the Internet includes, among other things, e-mail, chat rooms, newsgroups and the World Wide Web. The Web itself is only part of the Internet. However, it is the part that has garnered the most public and corporate attention. This is because the Web involves the use of text, graphics, and sound. It provides a visual, sometimes audible, and always interactive interface to the Internet.
The field of Web based art has come into existence in the past seven or so years. The first graphical Web browser, Mosaic, was released in 1993 (Cailliau). Previous to its existence, artists had been working with multi-media and computer based art, but not within a medium that allowed the virtually instantaneous distribution of that art to anyone in the world with an Internet connection. One of the earliest Internet based musical compositions was a piece performed by the San Francisco computer network band, The Hub. The piece, entitled

MOZART: Requiem in D Minor - Soloists/La Chapelle de Quebec/Les Violons du Roy/Bernard Labadie - Dorian HDCD standard CD DOR-90310:
A worldwide choral event was staged one year after 9/11 - The "Rolling Requiem." Choruses around the world gave heartfelt public performances of the Mozart Requiem, all on the same day. This live recording made in the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on September 20, 2001. It is well known that Mozart died before finishing the work and his student Sussmayr completed it. The score has been revised by noted Mozart scholar Robert D. Levin for this performance. He feels that basic materials for some of the sections which Sussmayr claimed he composed actually came from Mozart. The major changes are in the instrumental textures of the Benedictus section. The Quebec music ensembles had planned a tour of NYC and nearby cities a year in advance and as fate would have it the tour was for the second half of September 2001. Even more fateful was that the Mozart Requiem was on the program.
