MOLTER, JOHANN MELCHIOR BIOGRAPHY
Johann Melchior Molter was born in Germany, but received his mature musical education in Italy. His life falls into two distinct periods that were determined by the quality of employment in stately homes, with a somewhat baren period in his middle years due to the financial state of his employers. It was in this period that he composed a considerable amount of chamber music for the limited number of players at his disposal. For the last twenty years he enjoyed a fine and virtuoso orchestra, this bringing a flood of concerto scores for a whole range of instruments. He was not a composer who worked on a large musical canvas, his works generally quite short.

Jump to: navigation search Johann Melchior Molter Johann Melchior Molter (born at Tiefenort , near Eisenach 10 February ; died at Karlsruhe 12 January ) was a German baroque composer and violinist . He was educated at the Gymnasium in Eisenach. By autumn he had left Eisenach and was working as a violinist in Karlsruhe. Here he married Maria Salome Rollwagen, with whom he had eight children. From he studied composition in Italy . From to he was court Kapellmeister at Karlsruhe. In he became Kapellmeister at the court of Duke Wilhelm Heinrich of Saxe-Eisenach Maria died in and by Molter had married Maria Christina Wagner. In that year he returned to Karlsruhe and began teaching at the Gymnasium there. From to his death Molter was employed by Margrave Carl Friedrich of Baden-Durlach , the son of his first employer. Molter's surviving works include an oratorio ; several cantatas ; over 140 symphonies overtures , and other works for orchestra ; many concertos , including some of the first clarinet concertos ever written; and many pieces of

Januar in Karlsruhe ) war ein deutscher Komponist und Kapellmeister Johann Melchior Molter Er studierte an der Universit¤t Venedig und in Rom , die Studien wurden ihm vom Markgrafen von Baden finanziert. Nach Beendigung seines Studiums im Jahre trat er die Stelle des Markgr¤flich Badischen Kapellmeisters in Durlach an, die er bis zum Jahre innehatte. Im gleichen Jahr folgte er einer Berufung zum Kirchenmusikdirektor nach Eisenach . Dieses Amt bekleidete er f¼r zehn Jahre. nach Durlach zur¼ckgekehrt, ¼bernahm er wiederum seine fr¼here Stelle als Kapellmeister der Hofmusik. Molter starb im Alter von 69 Jahren in Karlsruhe. Er gilt als einer der produktivsten Komponisten der Instrumentalmusik des 18. Jahrhunderts und genoss zu Lebzeiten hohes Ansehen. Sein kompositorisches Schaffen umfasst Konzerte Ouvert¼ren Sonaten sowie Kantaten . F¼r die Klarinettisten ist Molter von besonderer Bedeutung, da seine Klarinettenkonzerte, die auch heute noch gespielt werden, zu den fr¼hesten Vertretern der Gattung z¤hlen. Ansonsten sind Molters Werke gr¶Ÿtenteils in Vergessenheit geraten.
