Seinen ersten Klavierunterricht erhielt Horowitz mit sechs Jahren von seiner Mutter, einer ausgebildeten Pianistin. Noch w¤hrend seiner Schulzeit studierte er am Konservatorium Kiew Klavier und Komposition unter anderem bei Felix Blumenfeld . Zitat: "Wir spielten im Unterricht nicht in erster Linie Klavier, sondern Musik. Dann spielten wir die Musik, wie sie bei verschiedenen Instrumenten erklingen w¼rde. ‘Wie w¼rde das ein Violinist spielen’ w¼rde mein Lehrer dann fragen oder ‘Spiel es wie ein Fl¶tist’. Was immer der Effekt sein sollte, ich musste selbst herausfinden, wie das ging. Mein Lehrer Blumenfeld gab mir den Rat: ‘Versuche nicht zu imitieren, aber denke an die Farbe.’ verlieŸ er die Sowjetunion auf Grund der dortigen schwierigen politischen und gesellschaftlichen Lage. Horowitz musste in Kinos¤len und manchmal in Gasth¶fen vor dem "proletarischen Bauernvolk" spielen. H¤ufig wurde er als politischer Propagandatr¤ger eingesetzt. Eine Rolle, die ihm nicht zusagte. Russian pianist. He attended the Kiev Conservatory and made his debut in 1921. His stunning technique gained him a large international reputation, and he became an inveterate touring performer, giving 100 concerts a year in the U.S. alone. In 1933 he married Arturo Toscanini 's daughter, Wanda. Always susceptible to nervous strain, in 1953 he decided to quit public performance; his return to the concert stage in 1965 was attended by great publicity. He favoured the works of Romantics such as Robert Schumann Franz Liszt , and his friend Sergey Rachmaninoff .
