Gabriel Urbain Fauré
Born near toulouse, he became an important figure in the French musical world and was a long-time Director of the Paris Conservatoire until deafness in his old age forced him to retire. A prolific composer in a wide variety of forms: piano music, chamber music, songs and short orchestral works. His Requiem still commands a prominent place in the classical repertoire.
