Video: Fidel Castro is OK!
Wonderful news from Cuba, as a recent news broadcast from one of the western hemisphere's two remaining democracies shows lider Fidel Castro alive and well as Hugo Chavez - the leader of the other democracy - comes to pay him a visit and congratulate him on his return to health and his return to fighting against the fascistic dictatorial oppressor regime to the north. Buenos suerte, mi comrade Sr. Castro! UPDATE: I hate to quote from "that parvenue site" as Ariadne calls them, but comrade Blake Fleetwood has important and heart-warming news. Fidel says "I can speak in a loud voice if I want" and not only that, he can play baseball too! And: Castro also met yesterday for an hour with Kofi Annan. Until this morning details of the conversation have not been made public. However, a Cuban publication, Rebellious Youth, said that Castro gave Annan a book excerpt that details the life of Fidel from 100 hours of interviews between the Cuban leader and the French journalist Ignacio Ramonet. "To Kofi Annan, our infinite recognition," reads the dedication from Castro to the Secretary General of the UN.

STRIKING A BLOW JOHN WOO'S OVER-THE-TOP STYLE IS GONE WITH 'WINDTALKERS'.
Byline: - Glenn Whipp Hong Kong director John Woo (``Face/Off,'' ``The Killer'') knows as well as any of his hard-core fans that he has a very definite style, a style that involves highly choreographed violence, operatic emotions and spectacle and that somehow transforms brutal violence into a thing of beauty. It's a style that made him the wrong person to direct ``Windtalkers,'' a World War II story of friendship between a Navajo ``code talker'' (Adam Beach) and the Marine (Nicolas Cage) assigned to protect him - or kill him should he fall into the hands of the enemy. ``I knew I had to change a lot of what I do to make this movie,'' Woo says. ``I needed to make it more convincing and real and tell the story honestly. It's based on a true event and I had to take that seriously.'' Woo says the movie is his tribute to director John Ford and, as such, he eliminated what he calls ``stylish technique'' and focused on the friendship between the two lead characters. That doesn't mean Woo has gone soft. ``Windtalkers'' features several epic combat sequences with thousands of extras and there's enough blood and guts spilled on the battlegrounds to make film buffs think of Peckinpah instead of Ford.

BLOW, JOHN BIOGRAPHY
John Blow was the most significant English composer in the generation before Henry Purcell, ten years his junior, whom he outlived by thirteen years. Born in 1649, the year of the execution of King Charles I, he was young enough to benefit from the restoration of the monarchy in 1660, with the revival of church music. Dramatic Works Blow's masque Venus and Adonis, a charming masque designed for the king's entertainment, influenced Purcell's better known short opera Dido and Aeneas, by the side of which it deserves a place. Sacred and Secular Vocal Music Like Purcell Blow wrote music mourning the death of Queen Mary, a monarch for whom he had six years earlier written coronation music, when, with her Dutch husband William of Orange, she had succeeded her Catholic father, King James II. His works include a quantity of vocal music, sacred and secular, the former including a well known setting of the Lord is my shepherd. Anthems include the distinguished I beheld, and lo! a great multitude, a verse anthem, with the customary instrumental accompaniment. For the coronation of King James II in 1685 he wrote the anthem God spake sometime in visions.
