Born in the Manchurian town of Niuzhuang , Blacher spent his first years in China and in the Asian parts of Russia, and in , he eventually came to live in Harbin , after finishing school, he went to Berlin where he began to study architecture and mathematics. Two years later, he turned to music and studied composition with Friedrich Ernst Koch His career was interrupted by National Socialism. He was accused of writing degenerate music and lost his teaching post at the Dresden Conservatory. His career was resumed after 1945, and he later became director of the Music Academy of Berlin, and is today regarded as one of the most influential music figures of his time. His students include Aribert Reimann Isang Yun Maki Ishii Fritz GeiŸler , and Gottfried von Einem Was married to pianist Gerty Blacher-Hertzog. Their daughter is the German actress Tatjana Blacher

Boris Blacher 1922 (Passfoto auf seinem russischen Abiturzeugnis) Boris Blachers Kindheit und Jugend sind gepr¤gt von h¤ufigem Ortswechsel seiner Eltern (sein Vater stammte aus Reval (Tallin) und ¼bernahm als Direktor einer russisch-deutschen Bank F¼hrungspositionen in China Sibirien und der Mandschurei ). Blacher verbrachte die Schulzeit in Chefoo Hankau Irkutsk und Harbin . Dementsprechend vielsprachig (deutsch, russisch, englisch, chinesisch, italienisch) und multikulturell wuchs er auf. In seinem groŸb¼rgerlichen Elternhaus kommt er schon fr¼h mit Musik in Ber¼hrung und erh¤lt Klavier- und Geigenunterricht. Als Sch¼ler zeigt er Interesse am Musiktheater und lernt den Opernbetrieb auch von innen kennen; zun¤chst als freiwilliger Beleuchter an den jeweiligen Provinzb¼hnen, sp¤ter als Arrangeur, indem er Klavierausz¼ge – beispielsweise von Puccinis Tosca – zu kompletten Orchesterpartituren umschreibt. 1922 kommt er mit seiner Mutter ¼ber Shanghai und Paris nach Berlin . He went to Berlin in 1922 to study architecture and mathematics. He studied composition with Koch from 1924 to 1926, and then at Berlin University until 1931. In 1938 he was made director of a composition class at Dresden Conservatory, but in 1939 he relinquished the post because of disagreement with the Nazis. He returned to teaching in Berlin after the war, becoming professor at the Berlin Hochschule in 1948 and director there from 1953 to 1970. He lectured in Sahburg and in the USA, and received many awards; many of his composition pupils have achieved fame.

Gegründet 1979 an der Berliner Musikhochschule "Hanns Eisler" und gefördert von Mentoren wie dem Amadeus Quartett, Sándor Végh und Thomas Brandis, gewann das Quartett Preise bei renommierten Wettbewerben in Frankreich, Italien und Deutschland (ARD-Wettbewerb). Seitdem ist das Petersen Quartett ständiger Gast in den europäischen Musikzentren, auf bedeutenden Festivals und gastiert in den USA, Kanada, Südamerika, Fernost und Australien. Ihre CD-Einspielungen wurden mehrfach ausgezeichnet. Werke des 20. Jahrhunderts komplettieren als wichtiger Bestandteil das Repertoire des Quartetts.
Axel Bauni Piano
geboren in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, studierte an der Musikhochschule Mannheim/Heidelberg und an der Hochschule der Künste Berlin. Der Besuch der Liedinterpretationskurse bei Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau und Aribert Reimann legte den Grundstein zukünftiger Zusammenarbeit. Axel Baunis spezielles Interesse gilt dem Lied des 20. Jahrhunderts; er hat zahlreiche Liedzyklen und Klavierwerke uraufgeführt. Gemeinsam mit Aribert Reimann gibt er die "edition zeitgenössisches lied" bei ORFEO heraus. Heute leitet er als Professor an der Universität der Künste Berlin eine eigene Liedklasse.

Boris Blacher was born in China but returned to Germany, working as a composer and teacher in Berlin and later in Dresden, a career interrupted by the intervention of National Socialism, but resumed in 1945. Orchestral Music Among 20th century compositions, the works of Boris Blacher remain approachable, in particular his Variations on a Theme of Paganini, an orchestral work based on the theme from the 24th Caprice of the great virtuoso violinist Paganini, a melody used by Brahms, Rachmaninov and others for a similar purpose.
