My heart is full of many things...
there are moments when I feel that
speech is nothing after all. Ludwig van Beethoven was born on December 17, 1770 in Bonn, in the Rhineland of Germany. He lived in Vienna from 1792 until his death. Beethoven's Father and Grandfather were court musicians. Ludwig carried on the family tradition in exemplary form, becoming one of history's greatest composers.
Beethoven's dynamic musical style infused his compositions with his confidence and enthusiasm. Again and again dissonance is resolved with rejoicing. Fate is trampled by triumphant music. Turbulence in his personal life, including his becoming incurably deaf at 29, tested Beethoven's natural optimism. He surmounted these difficulties through a rigorous regime of composition. In his later career Beethoven's music was even more free and imaginative.
On his deathbed Beethoven was planning a tenth symphony, a composer to the very end. Despite his notoriously brusque manner, Beethoven was revered by Viennese society as its greatest celebrity. His funeral was attended by 20,000 friends and admirers.

45. Ludwig Van Beethoven A Musical Titan
A brief biography of beethoven, listing his major compositions and giving insights into his personality.
http://www.carolinaclassical.com/articles/beethoven.html
by Charles K. Moss, M.M.Ed., M.Mus.
Although his name is a household word, myths and misconceptions about the personality and life of Ludwig van Beethoven are prevalent today. Beethoven was not the neurotic genius-lunatic portrayed in some novels and movies in recent years. But he was instead an offspring of a truly dysfunctional family. It is true that his mother died during his late teenage years and that his father, an accomplished violinist and tenor singer, had become an intolerable and abusive alcoholic long before his wife's death.
The circumstances of his family life may have had an effect on Beethoven's genuinely eccentric personal nature, but it is more likely that the demands he placed upon himself as a musical perfectionist were transferred to and expected from those around him. As an adult, Beethoven's moodiness, his brooding, his famous fits of temper were often due to the early deterioration of his hearing which made him shun crowds and seek peace in nature. His sensitivity to the beauties of the countryside led him to take long, solitary walks in the surroundings of Vienna. The composer drew inspiration from nature, but at the same time Beethoven was intolerant of the mediocre, the flawed, and the unexamined in himself and in others.
When one realizes that life itself to Beethoven was a search for perfection, personified in his music, then his personality becomes more easily understood. For most people, life is about compromise and accepting less-than-perfect results in negotiations. But in his music and largely in his life as well, Beethoven viewed things from an "all or nothing" perspective, refusing to accept anything other than absolute perfection, reworking his compositions for years on end, and finally accepting his own creations as the nearest thing to perfection that he could achieve.

    Ludwig van Beethoven
Born: Bonn, (baptized December 17), 1770
    Died: Vienna, March 26, 1827
Born to a drunkard father and an unhappy mother, the young Beethoven was subjected to a brutal training in music at the hands of his father, who hoped that the boy would prove to be another prodigy like Mozart . Failing in this, the young Beethoven nevertheless embraced music and studied for a short time in 1792 with Franz Joseph Haydn in Vienna . Hailed as a genius and a master of improvisation at the piano, Beethoven soon made a name for himself, and by 1794 was known throughout Europe. He faithfully learned the Classical Viennese styles and traditions in music, and then proceeded throughout his career to completely revolutionize them. His earliest compositions reflect the classical restraint of Haydn and Mozart, yet there were always flashes of what was to come. The emotion he displayed while playing his own music was unheard of in his day, and the fiery intensity of his early Piano Sonata in C minor , known as the "Pathetique"

Ludwig van Beethoven: biography
Ludwig Van Beethoven was a musical genius who created symphonies and sonatas of intense passion and emotion, leading the way into the Classical Era of music
Ludwig Beethoven, child prodigy, was revered for his talent throughout the world even during his lifetime. Famous as the composer of "Fur Elise" and the Fifth and Ninth Symphonies, Beethoven is remembered as a man of great genius. But did you know he had a softer side? A side that often caused the man to fall hopelessly in love? A side that made him feel a friend's grief so deeply he could not speak? Did you know he composed entire symphonies "in his head," hearing the part for every instrument before he set the first note on paper? These are the lesser known facts about the well known musician. Born in 1770 in Bonn, Germany, Ludwig Beethoven was a precocious musician. His father was a rough man who determined to exploit the young boy's musical gifts and therefore forced the child to practice many hours each day. When the boy tired and made mistakes in his music, it is said that his father thrashed his head, "boxing" his ears as punishment for imperfection. Despite the harsh treatment, Beethoven loved music, and took lessons in violin, organ, and piano. Like Mozart, Beethoven began public performances at the age of six. He left school to tour full-time at the age of thirteen. When Beethoven was eighteen, his father died, leaving him the responsibility of providing for himself and two younger brothers. He accepted a position playing the viola in the orchestra to provide the household income. In 1792, Franz Joseph Haydn passed through Bonn and recognized the brilliant talent of young Beethoven, not only as a performer but as a composer. Haydn insisted that Beethoven accompany him to Vienna.

Ludwig van Beethoven
The greatest composer there ever was, and ever will be, Ludwig van Beethoven is the father of Romanticism. His works are those of great feeling, showing truly is pain and suffering he could tell not say in words. The master of all forms of music, Beethoven was even at times not composing for a career, but rather to express his thoughts of life. He had an enormous range of writing ability, from his stormy, crashing "Eroica" Symphony No.3 to his smooth, mellow "Moonlight" Sonata No.14 . And though he suffered very much, his music never suffered, as it is cherished and protected by all, realizing that indeed, Beethoven is the one titan of the musical giants. Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn, on the banks of Germany. His father was a drunkard who abused Beethoven into being a child prodigy, like the previous childhood of Mozart . His mother died when Beethoven was just seventeen years old, leaving Ludwig to take care of a drunken father, two brothers, and a sister. In his early childhood, Beethoven battered, forcingly pushed to practice until his he would be like the child Mozart was. Beethoven was even brutally awakened in the middle of the night by his father, to practice at the piano half-asleep. He began playing the piano and composing at a very young age, which attracted the attention of several wealthy people, who became his close friends. They and the prince of Cologne encouraged and helped Beethoven to travel to Vienna, to spread the news of his talent, and to study and seek his fortune. In Vienna, Beethoven dreamed of studying with Mozart, but he had died just the year before. He therefore asked to study with the other classical great

    About
From the poise of "The Moonlight Sonata," to the bombastic euphoria of "Ode To Joy," to the intricate architecture of the late string quartets, few forces in Western music so keenly translated the drama of human experience into sound as well as German-born Ludwig Van Beethoven. Fine praise for the most widely recognized member of the "Three B's" (with Bach and Brahms), but the notoriously disheveled, cantankerous genius would likely repay such a compliment by tossing an inkwell at your head if he heard it at all.
