Johann Christian Bach was born on September 5, 1735 to Johann Sebastian and Anna Magdalena Bach in Leipzig, Germany. His distinguished father was already 50 at the time of his birth, which would perhaps contribute to the sharp differences between his music and that of his father. Even so, his father first instructed him in music until he died when Johann Christian was 15, after which he worked with his second oldest brother Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach , considered at the time to be the most musically gifted of Bach's sons. He lived in Italy for many years starting in 1756, first studying with Padre Martini in

BACH, JOHANN CHRISTIAN BIOGRAPHY
The youngest son of Johann Sebastian Bach by his second wife, Johann Christian Bach was born in Leipzig in 1735 and on the death of his father in 1750 moved to Berlin to live with his brother C.P.E. Bach. He later travelled to Italy, where he studied with the famous Padre Martini, became a Catholic and was employed for a short time as organist at Milan Cathedral. In 1762 he moved to London as a composer of Italian opera, like Handel fifty years before him, and enjoyed a considerable reputation there for a number of years, establishing a series of subscription concerts with his colleague Abel. His fame extended both to Mannheim and to Paris, but by the time of his death his popularity in London had waned. His influence on the young Mozart was considerable, and they met both in London and in Paris. He is sometimes known as "the London Bach" Orchestral Music Johann Christian Bach wrote a number of orchestral works, some for the concerts that he organised in the Hanover Street concert rooms in London. These compositions included Six Grand Overtures, Op. 18, and Six Harpsichord Concertos, Op. 7.

JOHANN CHRISTIAN BACH (1731 - 1798)
J ohann Christian Bach was born on September 5th 1735 in Leipzig. He was the youngest surviving son of the famous composer Johann Sebastian Bach and Anna Magdalena, his second wife. His first musical training was naturally from his father. When his father died in 1750, Johann Christian went to Berlin to live with his half-brother Carl Philip Emanuel.
I n 1754 Johann Christian went to Italy to work for Count Agostino Litto in Milan. Here he became a pupil of the celebrated Padre Martini, who came to regard him a son. He became a roman catholic convert and at a point organist of the Milan Cathedral. In Milan he started composing operas.
I n 1762 he went to London. He became a close friend to one of his fathers old pupils Carl Friedrich Abel. The pair started a concert series, later named 'Hanover Square Concerts', mainly devoted to performing the modern music of the day. In 1764 he met eight years old Mozart, to whom he became somewhat a rolemodel. He continued to write operas and was generally at his highest in the 1770s.
J ohann Christian Bach died January 1st 1782. He was buried at St. Pancras' churchyard. Partly as a result of a dishonest housekeeper stealing his money, he left debts worth of 4000£.

His father was already 50 when J. C. Bach was born, so it is not surprising that by the time Johann Christian had grown up the style of music had changed a lot since Johann Sebastian had been writing his great works. Johann Christian belonged to the Classical period. He was 15 when his father died. He moved to Berlin and his half-brother Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach , who was already a famous composer, gave him more music lessons.

Johann Christian Bach
The 11 th son of Johann Sebastian Bach and the youngest to live to maturity, Johann Christian received his early musical training from his father, than whom music has spawned no greater genius. When Christian was fourteen his father died. Thereupon he studied with his brother Carl Philipp Emanuel . Four years later he left for Italy, where he continued his studies and won a patron. Eventually he became organist at the cathedral of Milan and began to compose operas, economically the most rewarding of compositional forms in those days. In 1762 he emigrated to London, his home until his death 20 years later. The "London" Bach achieved immediate renown in England, and within two years was appointed music master to the Queen. Until his health failed, he was the co-organizer (with Carl Abel ) of an acclaimed series of London concerts that took place over two decades.
