FORBIDDEN PLANET ... THE SCI-FI REVIEW BACK SCI-FI INDEX MOVIE INDEX LINKS ... MAIN INDEX Promotional Line: "Amazing" Quote: "It will remind us...after all...that we are not God..." Leslie Nielsen as Commander J.J. Adams Director Fred M. Wilcox 's Forbidden Planet is a combination of science, romance, comedy, and horror. The basic story involves a space rescue to a distant alien world, in search of a long-missing, previous expedition. They discover an eccentric scientist, his beautiful daughter, a powerful robot, and a horrible secret.
When communication from a space colony, formed by an expedition of scientists, and located 17 light years away on the fourth planet of the constellation of Aquilae, suddenly stops, a starship crew, led by Commander John J. Adams (Leslie Nielson) travel through space to this colony to investigate. They find only one scientist, Dr. Morbius (Walter Pidgeon) and his daughter Altaira (Ann Francis), who are the only ones able to escape a hideous, invisible monster that lurks around the planet. Dr. Moribus is a gifted scientist who has invented things from Robby the Robot to a mysterious project in his Krell lab. It seems that the Krell civilization had settled the planet 200,000 years ago. While the people had died out, their system was still working underneath the surface of the ground.

Leslie Adams CD Review
A Review: Leslie Adams' Songs Rarely does one hear a perfect match of singer, pianist, and repertoire. Love Rejoices, a new compact disk containing a rich assortment of the masterful songs composed by Leslie Adams has that magic. The program contains the complete song groups Nightsongs, The Wider View, as well as exerpts from Five Millay Songs and selected individual songs. Poets include Edna St. Vincent Millay, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Joette McDonald, Langston Hughes, and Georgia Douglas Johnson. The Adams songs are beautifully crafted. This composer knows what musical line is all about and sets his texts with love of words and musical technique to match the poetry. The piano parts are at once intricate and a perfect matach for the nuances of text. Darryl Taylor's rich tenor and Ms. GuyÕs sensitive accompanying meld perfectly. Mr. Taylor knows how to change his timbre from warm and luxurious to moody and dark, from very rhythmic to liquid. This is a wonderful listening experience. David Powers tells us that the disk [CD, Albany Records, Catalog 428] can be ordered from Educator's Music, (216) 226-6780. Printed songs (in three keys) can also be purchased at Educator's Music.

Leslie Adams: Body found off I-85 similar to missing Lilburn woman
Remains found in Franklin county, GA. could be those of Leslie Adams who has been missing since Oct. 2005. It could be eight months before DNA tests confirm whether the woman found in a swampy area two miles west of Interstate 85 is the 40-year-old hairdresser who disappeared in October 2005. But Thomas and John Heinen, a special agent in charge of the case for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, said there are a number of similarities between the descriptions.

    Common Sense Note
Questions for Kids: This story shows the way people more than forty years ago thought about the future. What things might make people's ideas about the future different now? It is interesting that the threat in this movie comes not from some kind of space alien or "bug-eyed monster" but from within the humans themselves. If your feelings could create a creature like the Id, what would it look like when you are mad? When you are sad? When you are lonely? When you are happy? Do you think we will ever have robots like Robby? What would be the best thing about having one? Would there be any disadvantages? Is the rule making it impossible for Robby to harm any rational beings a good one, even though it makes it impossible for him to protect them from the Id? Can you think of a better rule?
